Ipswich Town have signed goalkeeper Alex Palmer from West Brom.

The 28-year-old, who had 18 months left on his contract at the Hawthorns, joins for a deal understood to be £2m plus add-ons.

He's signed a three-and-a-half year contract at Portman Road.

Palmer has kept 29 clean sheets for the Baggies since the start of the 2023/24 season and is deemed to be one of the best keepers in the Championship.

He turned down the opportunity to sign for newly-promoted Premier League club Luton Town last summer.

With previous loan spells at Kidderminster, Oldham, Notts County, Plymouth, Lincoln and Luton, the former England Under-16 international steps up to the top flight having played in every division from the Championship down to National League North.

Town’s other goalkeeper option was inexperienced Scotland international Cieran Slicker.

Palmer becomes Ipswich’s fourth signing of the January window following the additions of right-back Ben Godfrey (Atalanta, loan), winger Jaden Philogene (Aston Villa, £20m) and versatile attacker Julio Enciso (Brighton, loan).

Having not played in the FA Cup this season, he could make his debut in Town’s fourth round match at Coventry on Saturday.

In total, Ipswich have spent close to £125m - plus loan fees – on recruiting 16 players since securing promotion to the Premier League.

It's understood there will be no further incomings or exits before tonight's 11pm deadline.
