Rangers fans have poked fun at Jota’s tears but Celtic supporters have been left greeting on the Hotline after a damp squib deadline day.

Brendan Rodgers snapped up left back cover in Jeffrey Schlupp but missed out on a striker to replace Kyogo – to leave punters fuming. And some even think the manager would be entitled to walk away given the failure to deliver. Fraser Davison, Glasgow, said: “Two words spring to mind with our January transfer business - totally underwhelming. We needed a left back, defender and two strikers – and we got a so-called utility man from Crystal Palace.

"Is he going to cover all the positions in one game? Celtic have had months to prepare for this window knowing Kyogo was for the off and Greg Taylor can walk soon. Jota is a welcome return but we are nowhere near stronger coming out of this window as Rodgers said we would be.”

Paul Price, Glasgow, said: “What a disappointing transfer window, not just for Celtic, but also the fans. Questions need to be asked and answered regarding the inability to bring in quality signings, when the team clearly need’s fresh faces. I wonder if the boardroom dither as much when it comes to paying themselves hefty bonuses? The manager and the fans deserve answers.”

Jim Docherty emailed: “I am astonished that the debacle that is the Celtic board have failed once again to get their fingers out and deliver the players needed to finish this season. They keep on about their finances, so other clubs are entitled to ask for top dollar for players. Maybe Rodgers will walk as well. I've had enough.”

James McLean, Rothesay, said: “Second trophy for Celtic this season – the Biscuit Tin trophy. No wonder the supporters are cracking up at the board.”

But Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: “I can understand why Celtic didn’t pay top dollar for a replacement for Kyogo when after paying serious money to bring Idah back. He is in outstanding form and it would have been grossly unfair on him to sit on the bench. With Jota back our firepower up front will only improve despite Kyogo’s absence.”

It was a quiet deadline day at Rangers with Lyall Cameron’s pre-contract the only business, while some fans are frustrated there’s been no move to extend Ianis Hagi’s deal.

Robert Livingston, Palm Beach, said: “Philippe Clement and board should be thanking Hagi for his performance and contribution to the side instead of trying to cut his wages. Hagi has made the side better but no gratitude from this boardroom of hollow men you could never trust.”

Back to Jota’s emotions at Fir Park and Michael Edmonds, Northampton, said: Sir Bobby Charlton famously said, ‘I never cry when we get beaten, I only shed tears of joy when we win’. If it was ok for Sir Bobby, it’s ok for Jota.”

Scott McAdam, Glasgow, said: “I can't wait to see Jota and KT on the left. Rangers fans mock him about crying but there will be plenty of tears at Ibrox once their loan players go back to their clubs.”

There’s not too much crying at Easter Road these days with Hibs hitting form.

And Neil Renton, Leith, said: “I’m not bothered about the lack of incoming players at Hibs during the January transfer window. The summer one will be massive for the club. We’ll have moved on those whose contracts are ending while attracting the type of quality we’ll need for our European campaign.”
