Paraag Marathe makes Leeds United Red Bull takeover admission amid Rangers move
Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe claims there has been no discussions between 49ers Enterprises and Red Bull about a full takeover at Elland Road.
The Whites' chief was speaking the Financial Times Business of Football Summit and discussed the makeup of the Leeds ownership as well as talk of a takeover at Rangers.
Red Bull bought a minority stake in the Championship club last summer after the Whites' disappointing Championship play-off final defeat to Southampton. The two parties agreed a multi-year deal which saw the company become the front of short sponsor for the 2024/25 campaign, as well as becoming the club's "exclusive energy drink partner."

The organisation has a portfolio of clubs across the globe, but has attracted controversy in Austria where FC Red Bull Salzburg changed its name, crest and stadium name after a takeover in 2005. The size of the minority stake at Elland Road is not in the public domain, though it's understood to be a significant investment.
The move to invest in Leeds United prompted concerns from the Whites' fanbase that the club would follow a similar route to the likes of RB Leipzig, New York Red Bulls and the aforementioned Salzburg club. However, Leeds stressed there would be no name change for the club
Speaking at the time of the investment, Marathe said: "I am thrilled that Red Bull is joining us to build a bright future for Leeds United and shares our deep respect for this truly special club. As Chairman, our consortium of investment partners will be invaluable to me as we approach this important moment for the club, now and into the future. Red Bull’s addition is a historic milestone that will further empower the club to reach its full competitive potential.”
Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull CEO Corporate Projects and Investments, said: “We are delighted to be an important element and partner of Leeds United. A club that is certainly one of the biggest in England and has a rich and successful history. The ambition to bring Leeds United back to the Premier League and establish themselves in the best football league in the world fits very well with Red Bull. We look forward to the partnership and are optimistic and energized about the future."
The club added that "the name and logo of Leeds United Football Club will remain unchanged". However, there were concerns from supporters that Red Bull's investment could lead to a further buyout at Elland Road.
Marathe has reiterated that there have been no talks regarding a takeover at the club, adding that the size of Red Bull's deal will increase if Leeds achieve promotion come the end of the current campaign.
In quotes reported by the journalist Ben Jacobs, Marathe said: "That's not contemplated at all. There is no language to that effect. It's not something we have discussed ever."
Marathe also kept his cards close to his chest regarding a potential takeover at Scottish Premiership club Rangers amid ongoing reported talks with the 49ers Enterprises.
"I can't really comment on whatever rumours might be out there," Marathe added. "But we are looking at other opportunities. It is doable to replicate the passion [of Leeds].
"What we are looking for is clubs with the right bones, history of success and potential for growth. And if you are a sports person, and you love it and treat it as a way of life like I do, then absolutely there is enough room in your heart to love all your sports properties, just like there is to love all your children!"
