Patrice Evra calls for Bruno Fernandes to be stripped of captaincy after Man United announcement
Manchester United's former captain Patrice Evra has told Ruben Amorim to strip Bruno Fernandes of the armband and give it back to Harry Maguire.
Fernandes has been the captain of the Reds since July 2023, when Erik ten Hag decided to switch the armband to the midfielder. The decision was made after Maguire spent a lot of time on the sidelines in Ten Hag's first season and the Portuguese stepped in as vice captain.
After losing the armband, Maguire's form has improved somewhat and he has won his place back in the defence. His contract was due to expire in the summer but Ruben Amorim announced in his press conference on Friday that he had exercised the one-year extension in Maguire's deal to keep him at the club until 2026.

Explaining the decision, Amorim said: "Harry Maguire: [we are] going to trigger our option. I spoke with him this morning and I told him that he has to improve his game on the pitch.
"We need him a lot and also he has to improve as a leader, because we all know the situation that he had here but we need him a lot in this moment so we are going to trigger happily the option for Harry. He (Maguire) coped very well with his struggles and when you look at our team, we are starving for leaders on the pitch.
"He is a leader, he has to improve that part, he has to improve his game, so we are happy to continue with Harry." After hearing this news on Friday, Evra replied to it on Instagram insisting that Maguire should be reinstated as captain of the football club.
"Give him the armband back!!!!" Evra wrote on the social media platform. "After all he been through showing resilience, leadership."
