Patrick Mahomes talks Super Bowl glory for Chiefs – and Doritos 'Crash the Game' finalists
Don't expect Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to invoke any "Tay-voodoo" or "Angels in the Outfield" magic ahead of the team's quest for a third straight Super Bowl championship.
"I've always believed you kind of create your own luck," Mahomes, 29, told USA TODAY the day after the Chiefs locked up the AFC West with yet another game-winning last-second play. "There's obviously some luck I guess. But at the end of the day, I believe we have a lot of people that work extremely hard. Maybe we can kick it through the uprights, not have to hit an upright or maybe not have to block a field goal. But at the same time we've put ourself in a position that we can be lucky and that can get us wins."
It was Jason Kelce, brother of Chiefs tight end Travis, who mentioned both the aforementioned theory about Taylor Swift's "influence" and the 1994 Disney film on their "New Heights" podcast. Travis also dismissed the idea of either playing a significant role in the Chiefs season, which has seen a number of close calls fall the team's way en route to a 15-2 record and the top seed in the AFC.
As for Mahomes, who became a father for the third time on Monday, he is taking part in yet another national ad campaign. The three-time Super Bowl champion, along with teammates Creed Humphrey, Xavier Worthy and Chris Jones are helping Doritos reveal the three finalists for the brand's "Crash the Game" contest. Fans can vote at DoritosCrash.com for the winner. The grand prize winner's commercial airs during the big game. The creator also wins $1,000,000 and a trip to Super Bowl LIX.

The day after a last-second doink field goal clinched the division for the Chiefs, Mahomes and his teammates returned to Arrowhead Stadium to film content for the Doritos contest. All three of the "Crash the Game" finalists will air throughout the playoffs.
"I think what makes a great commercial is obviously the product, but at the same time, you have to have fun and (add) creativity to it," Mahomes said, while later adding that Cool Ranch is his "ultimate go-to" flavor. "I'm excited for fans to be able to go and judge these commercials."
Mahomes said when it came to evaluating the finalists, he's "not Simon Cowell."
"I'm not that critical, but I have my input," he continued. "I give my advice on what I think can be better, but the commercials that I saw today, any of these could be Super Bowl-worthy and I'm excited for that."
The two-time MVP is also working on another Super Bowl-worthy campaign on the field.
"We've embraced it," Mahomes said of the team's popularity. "We love to play on primetime. We love have these big, everybody-watching games and we like winning. We like the spotlight and it's been a fun run these last few years."
