Paul Merson makes strange Mohamed Salah claim as he compares Liverpool ace to 'special' Cole Palmer
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson says Chelsea star Cole Palmer has a bigger impact on his side than Mohamed Salah does on Liverpool — claiming that the England attacking midfielder is a more "consistent" performer than the Egyptian.
"I think (Palmer's) made Chelsea a much better team," Merson said on Sky Sports News. "He’s been involved a lot more. I think Salah is playing in an unbelievable team with unbelievable players. But Palmer, I just think he’s a special, special player.
“Believe it or not, I think he’s more consistent than Salah in a game of 90 minutes. I think he’s involved more. Don’t get me wrong, I love Salah. He’s a different class — one of the best in the world.

"But sometimes you’ll watch Salah, and he’ll do something, and you’ll go, ‘Really?’. Or he’ll put one over the bar, and you’ll go, ‘Really?’… The thing with Salah, he can not touch the ball and score two goals in two minutes.
"I just think Palmer's carried Chelsea. I think he’s been a catalyst. I don’t think Salah has been a catalyst. I think he’s in a very, very good team. This lad has taken Chelsea to the brink of hopefully getting into the Champions League."
Having drawn with Everton and then lost to Fulham and Ipswich, Chelsea is now 10 points behind Liverpool in the Premier League table having played a game more. Enzo Maresca's side faces Crystal Palace at the weekend.
Liverpool.com says: Palmer and Salah are both exceptional but the Liverpool man's numbers are above anyone else's at the moment. The Reds' star is not always involved in every moment of the game but neither is Palmer.
And when it comes to big moments, which is usually what counts the most, Salah has at least as many. You wouldn't bet against him doing the same against Manchester United at the weekend.
