Paul Merson has expressed his view that Liverpool is still vulnerable in the Premier League title race, engaging in a heated debate on Sky Sports regarding Arsenal's chances to surpass the Reds.

With Liverpool currently six points ahead and having a game in hand, former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood insisted that even with an upgrade of three world-class players, Arsenal couldn't catch Liverpool. This ignited a fiery exchange with Merson and Clinton Morrison with 16 games remaining for the Reds.

Merson, a former Arsenal forward, adamantly refuted the notion that Liverpool are out of reach, referring to last season's slip-up against Crystal Palace at home as a proof that the title chase is far from over for Arsenal.

He stated: "You have got to remember Liverpool were top of the league last season with six games to go. They lost at home to Crystal Palace. They lost at home. What happened? They've got it in them. Everybody forgets."

Challenging the perception that Liverpool doesn't face criticism for its shortcomings, Merson continued, highlighting discrepancies in reactions when Arsenal faltered. "Nobody said a word when they did that," he said. "They got beat by Palace, they melted and nobody said a dickie bird. Arsenal go to the penultimate game of the season against Man City and everyone called Arsenal bottle jobs. No one says a word when it's Liverpool."

Although Merson admitted that Liverpool's lead puts them as a strong favorite, he identified its upcoming away fixtures at Everton, Bournemouth and Manchester City as possible games where the Reds could slip up. He noted: "They probably are going to win it. It's the game in hand. If they win that, they are 10 points clear if you count goal difference. Then it's a bit different.... but Everton under the lights, David Moyes..."

"Out of the away games, Man City is the easiest one. Everton will sit 10 behind the ball, hard to break down, Bournemouth are playing as well as anybody at the moment, we've seen what they can do. Man City will have a go at Liverpool. That's where I'd say it's their easiest game because of the way they play."

Liverpool.com says: Merson is right to warn that it is not over yet. Arsenal will have to hope that Liverpool slips up, but the reality is that the Gunners would have to be perfect too. At the moment, that doesn't look particularly likely to happen.
