Paul Pogba and Mason Greenwood transfer truth revealed as chief sends Man United reunion message
Paul Pogba could yet make a surprise reunion with former Manchester United teammate Mason Greenwood after Marseille president Pablo Longoria refused to rule out the possibility of completing a transfer. The French midfielder is currently available for free.
Juventus terminated Pogba's contract by mutual consent last month after his ban from football was reduced. He can return in March, having not played for over a year already.
Pogba was banned from the game after failing a drug test, but the initial sentence of four years was eventually cut down. Juventus had no interest in bringing him back into the fold under new manager Thiago Motta, though, leaving one of the world's most high-profile players without a club.

Linked with a host of sides, including a return to United, moving to Manchester City, and also joining Marseille, Pogba's future is in the air. Addressing speculation on Wednesday, Longoria said: “I’m not closing the door, because he’s a world-class player. We have to analyse, since he’s on the market and it’s always good to take advantage of these opportunities and have great players in your team.
“There are no advanced discussions with him. We will have an internal meeting to set all the transfer window objectives. He is a player that I respect but we must analyse. No decisions have been made on his case.”
Marseille paid United over £20million to sign Greenwood in the summer and also picked up former Juve and France midfielder Adrien Rabiot as a free agent. Roberto De Zerbi is leading the Ligue 1 side as manager.
Greenwood and Pogba played 71 times together for United across two-and-a-half years. Their last appearance came in 2021 under Erik ten Hag before Greenwood was suspended. His last match was in January 2022, around 18 months before Pogba left at the end of his contract for the second time.
Unlike Pogba, who struggled with injuries as soon as departing United, Greenwood has rebuilt his stock, scoring 10 times in Ligue 1, assisting twice in the opening 15 matches. His side are second in the table but still seven points behind Paris Saint-Germain at the top.
Come January 1, Pogba will be able to train again. He is eligible to play matches in March.
