Paul Warne has revealed that Eiran Cashin will be available for Derby County's trip to Cardiff City on Saturday after missing Tuesday's 1-0 defeat against Sunderland.

Cashin was left out of the Derby squad to take on the Black Cats - a matter of hours following a new bid from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion. However, the Rams are adamant that they are not selling the 23-year-old in the January transfer window, DerbyshireLive understands.

While the size of the bid, nor any of details was not revealed, it does seem that the Seagulls did indeed send Derby an offer – which won't go anywhere. Cashin has two-and-a-half years left on his contract and has been a stalwart since making his debut during the 2021/22 season.

Despite rumours surrounding Cashin's future, he was not involved against Sunderland as a 'precaution', having only returned from a tendon injury earlier this month. And in his post-match press conference, Derby boss Warne reiterated that message and admitted he will likely play against Cardiff on the weekend.

Asked about the bid from Brighton and his fitness, Warne said: "He is good. He was walking around baptising kids at half-time. He is coming back from a tendon injury, so the chances of re-injury if he plays three times in a week is 30 to 40 per cent so it wasn't a risk that we were prepared to take.

"He has trained today, he will train with the squad on Thursday and he will be included in my thoughts for the weekend [against Cardiff].

"It sounds more exciting if I said I pulled him out of the squad to drive him to Brighton tonight, but that isn't the case. It would be a good headline, but he will be available for the weekend. He is not re-injured or anything like that, it was precautionary."

As for the game itself, the Rams made a slow start and fell behind in the first half courtesy of a fine strike from Sunderland's Eliezer Mayenda. The winger was played through by Jobe Bellingham and he set himself before drilling the ball low and through Jacob Widell Zetterstrom's legs.

Although Derby had the better of the second period and should have made one of their opportunities count, it didn't impact the scoreline and they fell to a fifth straight Championship defeat. The result sees the Rams move down to 20th in the table but remain one point above the relegation zone.
