Paul Warne issues Derby County transfer update but pinpoints reason for delay
Derby County head coach Paul Warne feels like he is "advancing" with a couple of his transfer targets now the January transfer window is open.
The Rams are eager to add to their squad this month with the club's head coach hopeful of improving the firepower in the final third of the pitch. Derby will have to move players out in order to bring them in and January looks like it could be a busy month.
Speaking after the game at Bristol City at the weekend, Warne said: "There is a couple on the list I feel like I'm advancing with, but I also know how long it takes. "Because the window is what the window is, you're always after someone's player so they obviously make it difficult.

"They obviously want to get what they can for their player, so it's never easy. That's my take on it, which is frustrating for a fan who listens to me talking, but it's the honest truth."
Derby now have a break from league action with the FA Cup up next and a trip to League One Leyton Orient who are in exceptional form. Asked whether somebody could be in before the trip to Brisbane Road, Warne said: "I probably go on the side of don't want to get people's hopes up. If I say, oh yeah, we're definitely gonna have a new face in and then we don't, I look like a liar.
"I always go on the side of look, it's probably less likely than more likely, and if they do come in like I'm not a genius, the club is. They are doing everything they can, so it's probably not unrealistic, but I obviously wouldn't lie either and say it's definitely happening because I'm not aware that someone's coming in Monday, put it that way."
