Pedro Porro immediately sprinted toward Rodrigo Bentancur after the midfielder suffered a concerning fall during Wednesday's game.

Tottenham star Bentancur fell to the ground while attempting to head the ball away from a corner during the first half against Liverpool. A lengthy delay in Carabao Cup semifinal first leg followed while 27-year-old received treatment before he was stretchered off.

Tottenham has since confirmed that Bentancur is conscious and talking, and he will travel to hospital for further checks. Porro, who took the corner, was the first player to notice Bentancur's fall and darted toward his teammate to check he was OK.

The rest of the players on the field were fully focused on the ongoing play, with referee Stuart Attwell halting the game after Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah cleared the ball. Quansah himself was also replaced before halftime after picking up an injury.

Porro's alertness was spotted by ex-Spurs midfielder Michael Brown while he was commentating on the game for BBC Radio 5 Live. "Pedro Porro darted, he saw it early and he was quite a way away," said Brown, who played for Tottenham between 2004 and 2006.

"He was over there quickly, the medical staff up around it and we were just watching obviously. Son (Heung-min) pushing the ball back, (Radu) Dragusin, the save and then you start to look and think this is a huge problem.

"We've seen other players in that situation over the years here. Medical team fully equipped, they did their job and were right on top of it. We wish him well and his family but it was a huge concern and football wasn't important for that five or 10 minutes."

Tottenham posted an immediate message of support for Bentancur on X. The post read: "Bentancur is stretchered off and we're forced into an early change. We're all with you, Lolo (praying emoji)."

Spurs then posted an update on Bentancur at halftime. The post on X read: "We can confirm Rodrigo is conscious, talking and will go to hospital for further checks."

Sky Sports presenter Mark Chapman also provided an update at halftime. He said: "The latest we have on Bentancur's after that awful-looking injury is that when he was stretchered off the doctors accompanied him to the dressing room, and he's still in there with the doctors. That's the only update we have at the moment."
