Penybont put pressure on league leaders by beating Belmont
PENYBONT United celebrated their first outing of 2025 in the Herefordshire FA Women's League by defeating Belmont Wanderers 7-0 at The Racecourse.
Having struck the woodwork twice in the opening stages, the Polecats eventually forged ahead in the 18th minute when Cathy Harris was played through on goal and netted.
The Penybont forward scored twice more to complete a firstvhalf hat-trick in the 28th minute/
Chloe Colley added a fourth goal for the Polecats five minutes before the interval, netting from close-range.
Amielee Hope-Smith's lofted a 63rd minute effort over the head of the visiting goalkeeper to make it 5-0 before the Polecats added two further goals in the closing stages through Emily Francis and Hope Smith.
The result ensures that Penybont United remain six points behind league leaders Westfields but with three games in hand.
Meanwhile, Hereford Pegasus Ladies were unable to hold on to a lead as they were eventually defeated by 3-1 by title chasing Worcester City Reserves in their West Midlands Women's Regional League First Division (South) clash under the KGD Stadium floodlights.
The visitors had the best opportunity of the first half in the 41st minute but missed almost an open net from the edge of the penalty area.
Pegasus broke the deadlock three minutes after the interval when Harriet Adams latched on to a through ball before carefully directing her finish into the far corner of the net.
Home goalkeeper Katie Wood had to be at her best to make a couple of smart saves, including turning a 30 yard strike on to the crossbar.
Worcester City Reserves did level the scores from a 58th minute penalty, before going ahead five minutes later.
The visitors completed the scoring three minutes from time to send Worcester City Reserves to the top of the table.
