People Are Saying Patrick Mahomes Is Faking His Injury. Really?
Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs limped off the field Sunday after his body went down in an awkward twisted heap while being tackled by Cleveland Browns players. (Watch the video below.)
But many fans inexplicably accused the three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback of faking the injury. Way too manyactually.
“The annual Mahomes fake limp is right on schedule,” reads one post on X, formerly Twitter.
The superstar has heard this kind of chatter before ― perhaps an indication that some NFL followers love conspiracy theories as much as they hate Mahomes.
The Associated Press reported that his ankle “rolled up” as the Browns’ Dalvin Tomlinson tackled him and Mike Hall Jr. knocked his torso in a different direction on an incomplete pass with about 5 minutes left in the Chiefs’ 21-7 victory.
The video appears to bear that out, but the doubters kept up their blitz of criticism for Mahomes, who hobbled to the sideline.

He reported afterward that X-rays were negative for a break and that he would have lobbied to return to the game if the Browns made it close.
As for his availability to play again, Mahomes wouldn’t comment until he experienced how he felt in the morning. “I tried to bounce back up and obviously it hurt a little bit but now we’ll just get after the rehab part of it and try to get ready for next week,” he said.
But obviously Chiefs coach Andy Reid is far more concerned about the postseason and the Chiefs’ bid to win a third consecutive Super Bowl.
“He’ll get started on the rehab part of it as we go, and then we’ll just have to see how he does,” Reid said.
Mahomes could be seen walking without a limp ― though gingerly ― under the stadium afterward and later leaving on a cart.
One fan cracked back at the haters on Bluesky.
“The ‘Mahomes is faking another injury’ crowd is starting to come out in force,” the observer wrote. “How about any of them take the hit Mahomes did yesterday and see if they can even get up, let alone walk. To think he wasn’t hurt after that is stupid.”
