Pep Guardiola is ready to play his two young centre-backs in the Premier League this season after they completed January transfers.

Abdukodir Khusanov has completed a £33.5m move from Lens and Vitor Reis has arrived from Palmeiras for £29.5m as the defensive injuries City have suffered have forced the club to accelerate plans to rebuild the squad. Signing a 20-year-old and an 18-year-old is a sign that the Blues are planning for the future, but Guardiola is ready for them to come straight into his thinking.

Khusanov and Reis have not travelled for the Champions League trip to Paris Saint-Germain as they are not eligible for the first part of the competition. They can be added to the squad for the knockout phase should City make it, although they can be in the squad for the Premier League as soon as Saturday's home game with Chelsea and both trained on Tuesday with the group.

"Welcome them to the City family," said Guardiola. "Really young young players so they come for many years. A different type. Khusanov played in France and his physicality is extraordinary, hopefully he can learn as quickly as possible. Vitor is a young talent in Brazil and we're very pleased.

"In the Champions League it is not possible [for them] unless we qualify. I don't know if we qualify it will be possible but in the Premier League they are able to play already."

Guardiola did not offer an update on Kyle Walker as the captain looks to leave the club this month. Walker has not travelled with the squad to Paris and is expected to complete a move to AC Milan; that could be a loan for the rest of the season rather than a permanent deal.
