Pep Guardiola is revolutionising English football one step at a time, with the age-old tradition of fines the latest to be changed.

Manchester City amassed 100 points and scored 106 goals in last season’s title-winning campaign, earning plaudits as one of – if not – the best sides to have ever played in the Premier League era.

They did it by playing undoubtedly the best football we have seen in this country, as Guardiola showed his methods and style could work on these shores, despite much criticism during an unsuccessful first season.

Now he is looking for ways to keep his players on their toes and make sure they do not become complacent this time around, as they look to become the first side in ten years to retain the Premier League trophy.

And, according to The Sun, he has decided to alter the manner in which players are fined for misdemeanours such as lateness, using your mobile phone at the dinner table and urinating in the showers to do so.

Rather than have a set figure for each ‘crime’, players will be fined a percentage of their weekly wage.

That is because paying £100 fine is nothing for star players such as Kevin De Bruyne or Sergio Aguero, but for youngsters like Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz that is a much larger part of their weekly wage.

Fines are part and parcel of life at any professional or amateur football club across the country; at the top level, money might go to charity, while those in non-league are more likely to put it in a pot for their end of season party.

City’s pot could be substantially bigger this year with the changes too, given De Bruyne’s reported £260k per week and Aguero on £250k.

It is just another alteration that Guardiola has made as he strives for greatness – and you wouldn’t bet against other clubs following suit.
