Savinho is an 'old fashioned vintage' winger who gives Manchester City a perfect provider for Erling Haaland, Pep Guardiola says.

But in true Guardiola fashion, the manager followed that statement with a clear demand for more from his young Brazilian, who notched three assists against West Ham as his good form continues.

Savinho has a goal, four assists and a penalty won to his name in his last three games, helping City register seven points to take the first steps out of their woeful run. Guardiola, though, wants more.

"He's clean in his mind," Guardiola said of Savinho's purple patch. "Normally when you are many years here the players think they deserve something special for what they have done and that is a big mistake. You have to prove it again and again and again. Savio has to do everything to win, to prove."

Savinho has three assists in two games for Haaland, prompting Guardiola to praise the Brazilian's aggressiveness in setting up the striker.

He said: "Of course, having a left foot in the left side, like old fashioned vintage football, right in the right, left in the left. Of course this kind of crosses helps the striker we have."

But then came the stick after the carrot.

"He has a lot to improve, not aggressive enough without the ball, a little bit soft in many departments," added Guardiola. "But right now he has something special and brilliant that helps a lot for the team. He scores a goal, a bit lucky, but the two assists are brilliant. I'm so happy for him and he deserves to play."
