Jamie Carragher wants Liverpool to emulate Chelsea by taking advantage of Manchester City's mistake. The Reds are in the market for attackers, particularly with Mohamed Salah's future still up in the air, and Carragher says he'd "love" to see Aston Villa ace Morgan Rogers strutting his stuff at Anfield.

The 22-year-old former City star has emerged as one of the Premier League's top young talents this season, with 12 goals and six assists to his name in all competitions so far. He's been a revelation since joining from Middlesbrough a year ago, which makes his Etihad Stadium stadium departure all the more surprising.

Rogers was never really given a chance at City, and was sold for just £1million in 2023 after failing to break into the first team. His career path bears similarities to Cole Palmer, who left City for Chelsea that same summer before swiftly emerging as one of Europe's top attacking talents.

The Premier League champions have taken flack for letting both starlets leave so readily, and although City boss Pep Guardiola has defended the club's decision to sell them, he recently admitted he'd love to have Rogers in his squad. "Everyone knows how good Morgan is," the Spaniard said in December.

"In the situation we are in right now, of course, these kinds of players would be with us. This is obvious. [But] I'm happy for him because he's a lovely guy. He exploded last season and this season he's a really, really top-class player. England have another exceptional player."

Carragher evidently feels the same way, having told his colleagues on the Stick To Football podcast: "I'll tell you what, that Rogers is a good player isn't he? You know what, I'd love him for Liverpool, oh he's a good player isn't he?"

Chelsea snapped Palmer up for £42m, and Liverpool will likely have to pay a lot more to land Rogers, given his current form. Before his City exit, Palmer was viewed as dispensable, and although his potential was obvious, he hadn't really proven himself at senior level yet.

Rogers, on the other hand, is neither dispensable nor unproven, and it could take a pretty substantial offer to bring Villa to the negotiating table, let alone convince them to sell. Then there's the question of where exactly he'd fit into Arne Slot's team.

The England international is versatile and has been used on both wings and as an attacking midfielder by Unai Emery this season. But if Salah stays, getting minutes on Liverpool's right-hand side will be tricky.

Additionally, Dominik Szoboszlai has been more or less ever-present in the No. 10 role under the new manager. Competition for the left wing spot, meanwhile, is fierce, with the likes of Luis Diaz, Curtis Jones, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota all jostling for position.

The Reds could also add other reinforcements, with Nico Williams and Anthony Gordon both linked with moves to Merseyside. That said, strength-in-depth is crucial for any club with lofty ambitions like Liverpool, and as Morgan has demonstrated this season - with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Marco Asensio and Leon Bailey all vying the same spots he is - a little competition won't hold him back.
