Jalen Hurts' parents, Averion and Pamela Hurts, have been with him every step of the way throughout his football career.

The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback grew up near Houston, Texas, in the small town of Channelview. Jalen was brought up alongside his brother Averion Jr. and sister Kynnedy, all of whom had a love of sports fostered by their parents. While Averion coached Jalen and Averion Jr. in football at Channelview High School, Kynnedy played on the girls' volleyball team.

Still, having parents who were both educators meant that Jalen focused on his studies, and he excelled as an honor roll student. Decades later, the professional football player reflected on its impact on him to be guided toward success on and off the field.

"I have a foundation kind of set for myself, but my parents did that for me," Jalen said of his parents during a press conference. "I think being a coach's kid, they created habits for me to see things a certain way, have the wisdom that I have, and I give all the credit to them."

Now, Jalen is playing at the 2025 Super Bowl alongside the Eagles, who are going up against the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 9 — for the second time in three seasons for the quarterback — and his family is rooting for him.

"He’s continued to put in the work ... and I have a really good feeling about this one," Pamela told KPRC 2 ahead of the big game. "I think we’re going to come back with a trophy.”

Here's everything to know about Jalen Hurts' parents, Averion and Pamela Hurts.

They have three children

In addition to Jalen, Averion and Pamela are the parents of son Averion Jr. and daughter Kynnedy. Like their Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback brother, the two other Hurts siblings are athletic.

Averion raised Jalen and Averion Jr. to play sports, including baseball, from which "they had arms that could throw," the dad of three said in 2016, per The Sports News.

After spending time out on the field, Averion Jr. eventually became a high school football coach and he's currently teaching in Baytown, Texas, according to his X account.

Meanwhile, Kynnedy spent her time playing volleyball in high school and has led more of a private life than her older brothers.

Similar to his son, Averion was a star athlete in college, having played football and track on a scholarship at Howard Payne University.

He excelled there, earning All-Conference as a senior offensive lineman and was a six-time All-American in track and field. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in marketing in 1990.

Averion's career began in elementary education

As a result of a knee injury, Averion's pursuit of a professional football career came to an end. In 1994, he turned to education and became a teacher. His career began in the Pasadena Independent School District at Parkview Intermediate, where he taught in the Adaptive Behavior Unit.

Two years later, he took his teacher role from the classroom to the field. He followed his sports calling and began a career as a football coach at MacArthur High School in Aldine Independent School District in Texas.

Pamela also pursued a career in education

Pamela worked in education for many years. With a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in counseling, she worked for the Channelview District in Texas like her husband.

At one point, she was the math special education teacher for grades 6 to 8 at a junior high school, where she also served as the Special Services Department Chair.

After spending six years with the MacArthur football team (capping his time there as the second assistant), Averion made his way to Baytown Lee High School. He worked there for four years and ultimately became the team's defensive coordinator in 2005.

In 2006, Averion returned to his alma mater, Channelview High School, as its football team's head coach for many seasons. He's been a high school football coach Jalen's entire life, which has heavily influenced the Super Bowl quarterback throughout his own professional career.

"He's the reason I am who I am on the field, off the field," Jalen said of his dad during a pre-Super Bowl press conference. "Being a coach's kid, I talk about it all the time, but I truly lean on that."

"To always compete, to always give my best, to always show respect to the people around me, I think those are some core things that he instilled in me," he continued. "I always go back to my experience and my time of being a coach's kid. Those are times I wish I could go be that kid again and do that again. Those are special times. But I learned so much, and I saw him lead."

They are proud to speak about Jalen's accomplishments

Though Jalen has been in the spotlight since his time with the Alabama Crimson Tide football team, he has maintained the privacy of his relationships, including with his-now fiancée Bry Burrows and family.

Still, Averion and Pamela don't pass up a chance to praise their son's drive and determination as a pro star. Speaking to the NFL's Good Morning Football, the father of three celebrated Jalen for all the time and effort he invested in the sport to get to where he is today.

"It's a blessing to watch a young man that developed a passion for a sport and really, really worked hard at every level and every turn," Averion said. "It's really remarkable to see the journey and to be a part of it ... It's humbling as a parent and as a coach."
