Philippe Clement Brendan Rodgers response 'remarkably petty' as Celtic hero Chris Sutton doubles down on Rangers boss

Chris Sutton has accused Philippe Clement of being "remarkably petty" with his response to Brendan Rodgers' comments.

The Rangers manager was clearly irked by the Northern Irishman's claim Celtic were going to have a "bit of fun" during next weekend's Old Firm derby. The Hoops can all but secure the Premiership trophy with a win as that would put them six points clear with only a further six to play for, and they have a superior goal difference.

Clement insisted the comment was disrespectful to his side and he would never say such a thing about another team. However, in a separate interview he also responded by saying "We will have fun also" and that's what has caught the attention of Celts hero Sutton.

The pundit has already claimed Rodgers had gotten under Clement's skin and that the Belgian was struggling with the pressure of managing in Glasgow.

He's reiterated that and also flagged up the irony in the Gers boss' two interviews.

Asked if it was all "storm in a teacup", he told the 'It's All Kicking Off' podcast: "It is. It's lovely and petty.

"I think Glasgow is getting to Big Phil, as it gets to everybody who plays or works in the city. It's a goldfish bowl. It's tense, but he also made a couple of reasonable points.

"He said they were behind when they came in by seven points and now it's three, but they did have it in their hands. Rangers lost to Ross County and dropped points to Dundee.

"What was remarkably petty is that Philippe Clement said it was disrespectful towards his team and that he would never say that about an opponent - he then went out and did the interview with Sky and said that they were also going to have fun. You couldn't quite make it up. It just adds a bit more spice to a game that doesn't need any more spice."
