Philippe Clement insists 'all the world was talking about' Rangers for one key reason as he issues fan rallying cry

Philippe Clement has called on the Rangers faithful to create another atmosphere that will be heard around the world as they aim to snatch a place in the Europa League last 16.

Gers must beat Belgians Union Saint-Gilloise and hope results elsewhere go their way to have any chance of finishing in the league phases’ top eight. If they can, they will skip next month’s play-off round and go straight into the draw for the last 16 in March. And Clement reckons the Ibrox support can play a major part too.

He said: “The fans can play a massive role. They have been playing an important part for more than 100 years. This is why this is such a massive club. I’m not so long inside this building, a little longer than one year, but I’ve already has several amazing evenings in European games or days like the last Old Firm when the atmosphere was something that all the world was talking about. It’s something the players, even the ones on the other side, talk about. So for sure the fans can play a massive part in that.”

Clement knows his side, currently sitting 13th in the table, need favours from at least five other teams if they are to sneak a bye to the last 16. of the Europa League. But he insists he won’t have one ear tuned to the radio.

He said: “In some cases you can keep an eye on the moving picture, like you could do before. But in this system it’s almost impossible because it will come down to goal difference.

“A team can score two goals in two minutes at the end, for example. So we’re going to concentrate on ourselves and go for three points. If we can score a lot of goals we will try to score a lot of goals.

“But that’s no different to other games we play. We always want to win and to to make a big difference towards the opponent. A also know that Union have a very strong team so it’s not easy to win against them - to win against them with a lot of goals is even tougher.”
