Boss Philippe Clement is on the brink of being sacked by Rangers.

The boss looked to be at the end of his tether after defeat to St Mirren on Saturday - just days after the shock Scottish Cup humiliation at the hands of Queen's Park earlier this month. Clement clung on in the face of mounting pressure with the trophyless campaign becoming a clear reality with just the Europa League standing as a realistic chance at silverware. CEO Patrick Stewart insisted that the club would stick by the boss earlier this week - with spirits of Rangers fans rising after Record Sport broken the news that 49er Enterprises were behind a mega-money takeover.

However, the Premiership defeat to the Buddies just hours after Celtic slipped up at Hibs looks to be the end of the road for the boss with the club in talks over a potential departure. Record Sport understands that the details over a potential exit are ongoing over the package that Clement will receive - which is believed to be more than the £1.2m initially reported.

Legendary captain and Record Sport columnist Barry Ferguson would be an obvious choice as an interim boss. He may even call upon Neil McCann for support.

In what could be his final interview, a crestfallen Clement insisted he would fight on. Asked about his future, he said: "Those are things the board needs to decide. In the end, I believe these players want to do the right things.

“I believe I can get results with these players. But I am also very disappointed with what we showed today – and I am responsible for that. Today was by far not the performance that we have seen in the past. It was by far the worst performance from my time here.
