'A player with a fantastic pedigree' - Wycombe Wanderers sign Danish midfielder
Wycombe Wanderers have completed the signing of Danish midfielder Magnus Westergaard.
The 26-year-old, who joins for a club-record fee, penned a deal with the Chairboys on Wednesday [January 15].
He had spent his entire playing career in his homeland where he represented sides such as Copenhagen, Lyngby, Hvidovre and Viborg.
He leaves the latter for South Buckinghamshire after playing 61 times across the last three seasons in all competitions.
Westergaard will wear the number 42 shirt at Adams Park, whilst his Danish teammate, fellow new signing Anders Hagelskjær, will don the number 45 kit.
He trained with his new teammates on January 16 and could make his debut at Mansfield Town on Saturday.
Chief Football Officer Dan Rice said: “Magnus is a player with a fantastic pedigree in the Danish Superliga and complements the way we play, so we’re really pleased to bring him to the club, especially given the strong level of competition we faced for his signature from clubs in the UK and across Europe.
“He was one of our top targets for this January transfer window and it’s great that we’ve been able to attract a player of his calibre to Adams Park to help us achieve our short-term goals this season and be part of our plans going forward.”
Westergaard comes in as a replacement for Aaron Morley, who has returned to his parent club Bolton Wanderers, following a successful four-month stay at Adams Park.
The Chairboys did have two bids rejected by Bolton for Morley’s services at the start of this month, which led to the signing of Westergaard.
