Here are the player ratings of Plymouth Live's Argyle reporter Chris Errington from the Pilgrims' 2-0 defeat at the Kassam Stadium. You can give your marks too using our special widget further down this story.

Conor Hazard 5 - Played his first game since suffering an ankle injury at the end of August as he replaced Dan Grimshaw between the posts. Had no chance with Oxford's early opening goal and went on to make a couple of good saves from Mark Harris and Przemyslaw Placheta. Ford the U's second goal, Hazard had over-committed going in one direction when Placheta cut back inside and rolled the ball into the net.

Matty Sorinola 6 STAR MAN - Returned to the team at right-back as he made just his sixth Championship start of the season and more so than anyone else in the side he showed the determination that Argyle are going to need if they are to get out of the mess they are in right now.

Kornel Szucs 4 - Made such an impressive transition to the Championship after his transfer from Hungarian side Kecskemeti in early August but is now finding it tough going as Argyle have collectively lost their way under Wayne Rooney.

Lewis Gibson 5 - The captain showed some attacking threat at a couple of first half corners, including one far post header which was saved by Jamie Cumming but, defensively, Argyle always looked vulnerable when the ball came into their box, whether from open play or corners.

Brendan Galloway 4 - Galloway has played at left-back in recent matches in the absence of other viable options and while he is a good defender he does not have the speed to deal with someone like Oxford's Przemyslaw Placheta, who was involved in most of the U's best attacking moments.

Adam Randell 4 - Argyle's dreadful run of results will be really hurting Randell given his long association with his hometown club. Had an unfortunate slip which allowed Ciaron Brown to get in a free header for Oxford's opening goal after a cross from the right.

Morgan Whittaker 4 - Returned to action after six matches out due to a toe injury. It was almost certainly earlier than ideal but given Argyle's lack attacking options due to injuries or the suspension of Callum Wright he made his comeback and played for 80 minutes before being taken off.

Rami Al Hajj 4 - Came as close as anyone to scoring for Argyle in the first half when his shot from inside the Oxford box deflected up off Will Vaulks and onto the top of the crossbar before going out of play for a corner.

Darko Gyabi 5 - Had some good moments, especially early in the second half when he made some good driving runs forward from central midfield as Argyle chased an equaliser, but they did not lead to anything.

Bali Mumba 5 - Showed some threat in his wide left attacking role as part of the Pilgrims' 4-1-4-1 formation. He set up Rami Al Hajj for his chance which hit the bar and had an angled shot of his own saved by Jamie Cumming. However, in the build-up to Oxford's opening goal Mumba failed to make a routine headed clearance from the edge of the penalty area and it resulted in Tyler Goodrham putting in the cross from which Ciaron Brown scored.

Ryan Hardie 5 - Another to make a surprise return to action, in his case after missing only one match. Hardie played with the stitches still in his left knee which had been badly gashed during the 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough at Home Park only eight days earlier. Deserves a lot of credit for playing the whole game in those circumstances.

SUBSTITUTES

Caleb Roberts 5 - The 19-year-old made his fourth Championship appearance of the season, and the third off the bench, when he replaced Rami Al Hajj for the start of the second half. Had an early shot blocked behind for a corner and came up with some good use of the ball.

Tegan Finn 6 - Was a 68th minute substitute for Brendan Galloway. Bali Mumba moved to left-back as 16-year-old Finn took up the wide left attacking position from him. Given his age, lack of first team experience and the very challenging times Argyle are facing at the moment, the academy product gave another good account of himself.

Andre Gray - Replaced Morgan Whittaker in the 80th minute but by then, with Oxford 2-0 up and in command of the match, he was able to have little impact on the match.

Substitutes (not used): Dan Grimshaw, Nathanael Ogbeta, Jordan Houghton, Julio Pleguezuelo, Freddie Issaka, Victor Palsson.
