Player ratings - How Wanderers fared in their 4-3 win against Crawley Town
WANDERERS (4-2-3-1)
LUKE SOUTHWOOD…6.
Hard to criticise on any of the three goals Crawley scored as they were excellent finishes. Southwood’s distribution was decent on the day.
JOSH DACRES-COGLEY…6.5.
Got into some great areas in the first half and didn’t quite find the final ball. Provided an excellent cross for Osei-Tutu’s equaliser, though.
EOIN TOAL…5.5.
Caught out a little bit by Forster’s pass for the second goal and then Hepburn-Murphy’s pace for the third, spoiling an otherwise reasonable performance.
WILL FORRESTER…6.
Came up with a big block in the first half to keep the scores level but Crawley’s movement and pace made for a tricky day.
ALEX MURPHY…6.
A first senior goal got Bolton back into it at 3-2, and he took it well. Defensively he was kept busy by Forster after starting as a left-back.
JORDI OSEI-TUTU…8.
Superb in the second half, offering Wanderers all the pace and trickery they needed on the left side. Looks to be a position which really suits him.
JOSH SHEEHAN…8.5.
If Osei-Tutu offered the energy and impetus, Sheehan had the class and the intelligence. Scored one and had a hand in everything good Bolton did going forward.
AARON MORLEY…6.5.
Switched play with consummate ease at times and made sure Bolton could use the width of the pitch. Also dropped in as a centre-back at the bitter end.
SZABI SCHON…6.
Played on the right side, which took a little edge off, but showed the usual drive to get forward. Can see a future for him in midfield.
JOEL RANDALL…5.5.
Didn’t have the same impact on the game that he has over the last few, possibly as a result of Collins being unavailable.
JOHN MCATEE…5.5.
A couple of half-chances to get himself a goal and the customary chasing and tracking. Yet to find that spark which sets his season off.
Subs: Johnston 6, 69 (for Murphy) – Solid enough to see the game out.
Jones 7, 69 (for Dacres-Cogley) – Deserves to claim the winner.
Lolos 6.5, 69 (for Schon) – His shot led to Sheehan’s equaliser.
Adeboyejo 6, 69 (for Randall) – Worked hard to rattle Crawley.
Matete 90 (for Forrester).
Not used: Baxter, Sharples-Ahmed.
Crawley (3-5-1-1): Cox; Radcliffe, Conroy, Barker; Forster, Doyle, Ibrahim, Camara, Swan; Hepburn-Murphy; John-Jules.
Subs: Showumni 63 (for Doyle), Feely 64 (for Forster), Adeyemo 70 (for Swan), Quitrna 80 (for Camara).
Not used: Wollacott, Papadopolous.
Attendance: 20.384.
Referee: Alex Chilowicz 5/10 – Sense prevailed in the end with Crawley’s endless timewasting tactics but we have reached the point where the rule-makers need to step in. Every week we see the same first half delays as keepers hit the deck and each team gets a touchline ‘time out’.
Chilowicz won’t have an easier red card decision all season but he should have taken control of the visitors’ dark arts earlier.
MAN OF THE MATCH – Josh Sheehan.
Nicked it from Osei-Tutu by virtue of his effect on the whole game. His passing was outstanding in the first half and he took the match by the scruff of the neck when Bolton really needed someone. Class act.
MOAN OF THE MATCH – You can understand why Crawley used all the tricks and loopholes but it doesn’t mean they should be allowed. The stoppage time was warranted but stronger officiating has to be employed.
MAGIC MOMENT – To be fair to Crawley, some of their goals were executed beautifully, but for pure emotion, Jones’s deflected effort at the end had the whole stadium on their feet.
ATMOSPHERE – The crowd made sure referee Chilowicz and his assistants knew about every lost second to Crawley’s shenanigans. Even at 3-1, the belief didn’t seep from the stadium and hardly anyone left before the end.
