WANDERERS (3-5-2)

NATHAN BAXTER…5.5.

Left standing by Cannon’s finish but some question marks on whether the shot was saveable. Slower distribution after the early slip.

EOIN TOAL…7.5.

Never bombarded but defended everything cleanly and his recovery tackle on Faal was textbook, showing that burst of pace.

WILL FORRESTER…6.5.

Stood up pretty well to Wrexham’s physicality and cleared plenty of set pieces. A definite improvement on Saturday.

GEORGE JOHNSTON…6.5.

Like Forrester and Toal, a step forward, and much more aggressive than the weekend. Almost got a goal in the first half too.

GETHIN JONES…6.5.

Always seems to enjoy himself more at wing-back and he got into some decent positions, creating one big chance for Lolos with a cut back.

JAY MATETE…6.

Wanderers had been wining the midfield battle to the hour mark, even if the quality had dropped out of their possession.

JOSH SHEEHAN…6.5.

The booking he received was scandalous – and did it play on his mind as he tracked Cannon later on? Dictated play for most of the first half and was inches away from a goal.

GEORGE THOMASON…6.

Freed from suspension, Thomason chipped in with the ball recoveries. Like Matete, though, you wanted a bit more on the ball.

JOSH DACRES-COGLEY…6.5.

Never stops going. Had the first half chance been on his right side, he was probably have scored. Filled in as left wing-back with the usual effort.

KLAIDI LOLOS…5.5.

Has a good habit of being in the right place at the right time but lacked a touch of composure at times after playing as a secondary striker.

VICTOR ADEBOYEJO…5.

One of those days where very little came off. Service to him at times was slim but he desperately needs a confidence boost.

Subs: McAtee 5.5, 58 (for Lolos) – Could have sent it to penalties.

Collins 5.5, 58 (for Matete) – Looked off the pace.

Osei-Tutu 71 (for Adeboyejo), Andreucci 83 (for Forrester).

Not used: Southwood, Inwood, Sharples-Ahmed.

Wrexham (3-5-2): Okonkwo; Brunt, Scarr, O’Connor; Longman, Cannon, Evans, Lee, Revan; Marriott, Faal.

Subs: Rodriguez 63 (for Faal), Rathbone 63 (for Lee), Barnett 63 (for Longman), Smith 63 (for Marriott Cleworth 87 (for Cannon) Not used: McNicholas, Mendy.

Referee: Ross Joyce – 4/10.

Certainly not the reason Bolton failed to win this game but one of the reasons both sets of fans failed to enjoy it. From the early yellow card shown to Sheehan to the late trip missed on Collins right on the edge of the Wrexham box, his decisions were difficult to understand.

Attendance: 7,591 (1,269)

MAN OF THE MATCH – Eoin Toal.

The stand-out player on either side, in fact. The Northern Ireland international oozed class, using the ball well, breaking into midfield with confidence and protecting his penalty area at all costs. Didn’t deserve to be on the wrong end of that score-line.

MOAN OF THE MATCH – Should Cannon have had so much space to advance and hit a shot? Sheehan did little to halt him, but Bolton had backed off to far.

MAGIC MOMENT – You would have to say that Okonkwo’s low save from Sheehan was the only moment of quality in the first half. Toal’s outstanding chase to deny Faal was the stand-out act of the second half, aside from the goal.

ATMOSPHERE – It will be different in a couple of weeks when the full Wrexham crowd come in but the singing was largely left to the Bolton contingent, who were outstanding throughout.
