When Kirk Cousins signed with the Atlanta Falcons in the offseason, some were excited about the veteran signal-caller joining forces with a young trio of playmakers in Atlanta: Drake London, Bijan Robinson and Kyle Pitts. However, the breakout has yet to occur.
Cousins has struggled through his first month in Atlanta. He could still be shaking off rust from the Achilles injury he suffered last October, which ended his 2023 season. Cousins ranks 24th in QBR (43.0) and 22nd in passer rating (83.5) through the first four weeks. Atlanta ranks 21st in EPA per play.
Kirk Cousins has struggled in primetime games throughout his career but is 1-1 this season under the spotlight. He led Atlanta to an improbable comeback win on the road against the Eagles on "Monday Night Football" in Week 2. Atlanta followed that game up with a loss at home on "Sunday Night Football" against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Playing quarterback for Tampa Bay will be Baker Mayfield. The former No. 1 overall pick is off to a terrific start in his second season with the Buccaneers, sitting fourth in passer rating (106.9) and 13th in QBR (57.1). Tampa Bay ranks eighth in EPA per play. He is coming off an outstanding game against the Eagles, during which he completed 30 of 47 passes for 347 yards and two touchdowns as the Buccaneers finished with 445 yards of offense.
The Buccaneers are off to a strong start and can make an early statement as the team to beat in the NFC South. One matchup to watch will be Mike Evans on the outside. He will see coverage from A.J. Terrell, and Chris Godwin will have an advantageous matchup with Dee Alford in the slot.
