Plymouth Argyle Women drop into relegation zone after Watford defeat
Plymouth Argyle suffered a 4-0 defeat to Watford at Langsford Park, Tavistock, in the FA Women's National League Southern Premier Division on Sunday.
It was a result that saw them drop back into the relegation zone after Gwalia United left their fixture away to Exeter with a much-deserved point after a 1-1 draw.
The Greens were once again punished for their lapses in concentration in the first half before being undone by two extraordinary strikes in the second.

Watford started the game the stronger of the two sides and were putting the hosts under a lot of pressure from kick-off, with the Greens struggling to retain possession and spending a lot of time clearing balls from defence.
Lily Felgate was called upon multiple times in the early stages but managed to nullify the threat and keep the Hornets off the scoresheet.
Argyle tried playing out from the back, in an attempt to retain possession for longer, but it was read well by the visitors, who then pressed high looking for a counter. Coral Haines’ shot was off-target and went out of play, allowing Felgate to reset and go again.
Caitlin Smith made a crucial tackle on Madison Perry inside the box, preventing her from making anything of her shot. But the next passage of player saw Watford take the lead in the 15th minute.
Jessie Gale’s cross into the box landed at the feet of Ellie Head in the Argyle six-yard box, who sent Felgate the wrong way and gave the visitors the lead they had been chasing.
This provided them with confidence which the Greens were struggling to cope with and balls they were failing to clear, resulting in a busy 10 minutes for the Argyle goalkeeper.
The hosts had their first set-piece of the match after Imy Crawford was fouled on the edge of their half and were looking to press forward from this but a wayward pass ran out of play.
Watford had learned their lesson of letting Argyle become comfortable in possession so turned up the pressure once again with Gale and Anna Filbey both taking their opportunity to test Felgate.
Lulu Jarvis picked up a loose ball at the halfway line and drove high into the opposing half but her pass to Ava Kuyken was intercepted and gave the possession back to the Hornets.
After providing the assist for the first, Gale got her name on the scoresheet as she doubled Watford’s lead on the brink of half-time. She managed to round Felgate and slot into the empty net.
Argyle started the second half better but were still lacking quality in the final third. They were creating chances but were either providing the wrong balls or there was no one to receive them.
Watford were looking more likely to find the third early into the half and had earned themselves a corner, however the Greens were awarded possession for a foul on Felgate.
Substitute Bianca Baptiste then had the start of dreams, after she scored with her first touch of the ball less than a minute after being brought on in the 60th minute.
Head coach Ryan Perks looked to make a bigger attacking threat as he made two changes; Ellie Sara and Georgie Knott joined the action, with Georgia Wilson and Jarvis making way.
But captain Megan Chandler made it four for the visitors just two minutes after the changes when she curled in a first-time shot from outside the box that was out of reach of Felgate.
The Pilgrims earned themselves an attacking free-kick late into the match, which was played short between Ella Stephens and Kuyken before being sent into the box, which required Maria O’Sullivan to make a save.
Charlotte Whitmore and Kuyken both provided the hosts with attacking possibilities on the left, but neither could find the final touch or pass inside the area to get a shot away.
Argyle can take a break from the pressure of the league and look to continue their impressive cup run on Sunday, when they host Stoke City in the FA WNL Cup semi-final at Home Park.
