Plymouth Argyle will play their 21st and final Championship game at Home Park of 2024 on Saturday when sixth-placed Middlesbrough are the visitors.

After taking on Boro, Wayne Rooney's Pilgrims will end the calendar year with away matches against Coventry City on Boxing Day and Oxford United on Sunday, December 29 before they begin 2025 against Bristol City at the Theatre of Greens on January 1.

Argyle have had some mixed results at home during 2024 but there have been some very memorable games as well, with several last-gasp goals turning draws into wins and defeats into draws.

Unless the Pilgrims' away form shows a significant improvement over the second half of the season then it is going to be vital to their chances of Championship survival that they pick up as many points as possible.

During 2024 - with the Middlesbrough match still to come - Argyle have won seven of their 20 home league games, drawn another six and lost seven. They have scored 27 goals and conceded 29, picking up 27 points in the process.

Clearly the best and most important of those victories was on the final day of last term when the Pilgrims beat Hull City 1-0, courtesy of a goal from, Joe Edwards, to stay up.

Argyle began 2024 with a thrilling 3-3 draw with Watford at a rain-soaked Home Park on January 1 under the temporary charge of Neil Dewsnip and Kevin Nancekivell.

Ian Foster's first home league game as Argyle head coach was a 3-1 win against Cardiff City on January 20 but the Pilgrims really lost their way at the Theatre of Greens after that.

A run of five consecutive home defeats, without scoring a goal in any of them and culminating in a 1-0 loss to Bristol City on Easter Monday, April 1 led to the dismissal of Foster.

Dewsnip and Nancekivell returned to lead the team, and a tremendous 1-0 Sky-televised home victory over table-topping Leicester City on April 12 was crucial in the end to the Pilgrims staying up.

Wayne Rooney's first two Championship matches at Home Park did not yield a win as they began this term with a 1-1 draw against Hull and a 1-0 defeat by Stoke City, then managed by former Pilgrims' boss Steven Schumacher.

Argyle did pick maximum points for the first time when they beat league leaders Sunderland 3-2 on September 14 after a goal in the third minute of added time from that man Edwards again.

The Pilgrims won their next two home games against Luton Town (3-1) and Blackburn Rovers (2-1) making it three in a row, and then staged an amazing fightback from 3-0 behind to draw 3-3 with Preston North End on their October 26 visit.

Argyle then beat bottom-of-the-table Portsmouth 1-0 at the Theatre of Greens after an 82nd minute goal from Michael Obafemi on November 5, but their last two home games have not resulted in a win, with a 2-2 draw against Watford - courtesy of a last-gasp goal from former Hornets' striker Andre Gray - followed by a 2-1 defeat by Swansea City on December 10.

Depending on the result against Middlesbrough, Argyle could end up with a winning record at Home Park in 2024, a losing record or finish it with seven victories, seven draws and seven losses.
