"Poisoned chalice" - Everton given Sean Dyche sack verdict as search for next manager begins
Everton are on the hunt for a new manager to steer them out of relegation danger, as Sean Dyche was sacked hours before an FA Cup match - and Liverpool Echo readers in our comments section say that the decision will sting, even if it turns out to be the right call.
The manager leaves Goodison Park with the club in 16th place, with the season shaping up to be another one in danger of ending up in a relegation dogfight. The decision comes weeks after The Friedkin Group (TFG) secured control of the club, and they've made their first big decision after seeing Dyche lead the team to three wins in 19 league games.
The call brings an end to Dyche's 23 months in charge, during which he endured the chaotic end to Farhad Moshiri's time in control of Everton, and secured survival in the face of points deductions and financial issues.

Stale performances eventually led to supporters calling for him to go, and a new manager will be sought - with David Moyes, Jose Mourinho, and Paulo Fonseca having the best chances according to the betting markets.
Reader Lovehandles1 writes: “If it was needed, TFG have shown their clear future intentions for the club, which is a good thing. At the end of the day he's owed nothing for keeping us up the last two seasons.
"It was his job which he has been paid handsomely for. Decisive action was needed and after the last two games I genuinely feared he was gonna take us down. Just not sure about the timing though, which could have been better, and as has been said Thelwell should be gone as well.”
Commenter Evertonyan says: “Wish him well wherever he ends up, but we were so predictable that teams always knew how to play us. We had no plan B, as plan A just wasn't working something had to change. Let's hope that whoever comes in has more tactical awareness, in that you just can't play the same, week in week out. We have to play the best team we have available, regardless of age or PL experience.”
1878dave writes:“Right decision. Football was getting increasingly unbearable to watch and he wasn't taking any accountability for set-up, tactics, playing players out of position and constantly picking poor performers. Needs a reset, but I'm hoping they think hard about who replaces him instead of getting the same again.”
COYB1964 says: “I applaud him for taking on the poison chalice, and giving us the direction to survive past relegation battles with a poor squad, but change was needed so badly.”
Paulgreco is sympathic: “Whatever we think of his football as a spectacle, it can't be forgotten that Dyche got us to what would have been 12th last season without the points deductions... That's only two spots below what Ancelotti managed. He came here to save us from the drop, and did. Nor has he left us bottom of the table the way Frank did. Time to move on, but not thanking him and wishing him well is a disgrace.”
