WARRINGTON Athletics Club’s Louise Blizzard enjoyed success over the past week on contrasting terrains.

In midweek she made a rare cross country appearance, helping British Police to a team success in the Sir Sefton Branker Cross Country Trophy race at RAF Halton in Buckinghamshire.

She finished 11th in the women’s event and with Amy Beck, Nia Nokes and Kate Alpe taking the first three places the Police easily won.

Blizzard then switched to tarmac as she took the honours in the over 45 women’s age group in Helsby Running Club’s Essar 4 Villages Half Marathon on Sunday, clocking 1hr 31mins 37secs.

Interestingly, 30 years ago Blizzard won the under 20s age group in the event, setting a new course record of 1hr 20mins 20secs which she improved the following year to 1hr 18mins 33secs.

Clubmate Steve Watmough also got among the medals on Sunday, crossing the line in 83rd place overall in 1hr 22mins 14secs to win the over 60 men’s age group.

The race was won by former Warrington Athletics Club runner Danny Cliffe, now competing for Hercules Wimbledon AC in London, with 1hr 7mins 20secs.

In 10th place was second-claim member James Horman, running for his first-claim club Liverpool Harriers, in 1hr 12mins 31secs to claim the men’s over 45s age group.

Elsewhere, Warrington AC’s under 15s athlete Leah Poole travelled to the Emirates Arena in Glasgow to compete in the 4J Studios Scottish Athletics National Indoor Open.

In the 60m series she finished in eighth place in her race with 8.92secs and then third in her 200m race with a personal best 28.84secs.
