Police urged to act as vandals hit Whinhill golf course for second time in a week
POLICE are facing calls to step up their patrols near Whinhill Golf Club after twisted vandals targeted the course for the second time in a week.
Earlier this week the Telegraph told how e-bike riding yobs had damaged greens at four of the club’s 18 holes in an overnight rampage on Sunday.
Not content with the destruction their first attack caused, the selfish hooligans struck again on Wednesday night, using their vehicles to destroy the greens on nine of the holes.
Three of the e-bike riders were captured on film on Wednesday night, clad in black outfits as they rode their bikes over the greens and fairways.

Councillor Robert Moran, who uses the course, has called for police to step in and catch the culprits.
He said: “As a councillor and someone who uses the course I have to say I’m very disappointed and saddened that these people are going up there and doing that.
“Whinhill is a great asset to everyone that uses it, even those who are just walking through.
“It’s such a fantastic place and for people to get in and do that is just beyond words.
“I hope the police step up the patrols there. I just hope we can get a police presence up there to deter the culprits from causing that carnage which is really horrible.
“I know a lot of people up there are retired people or don’t have a lot of money, it’s a community asset. To do this to it is horrible.”
Speaking to the Telegraph on Thursday, club members said that they had been having problems with e-bike riders damaging the course since October last year.
Club member David Pearson has now told the Telegraph he can’t understand why Whinhill is being targeted.
He said: “They came back up again and the result is we’ve had to call off a tournament for this weekend.
“They seem to be targeting us for some reason, I don’t know why.
“Somebody is going to need to catch these guys or else this will be ruined for all the golfers here.
“It’s like putting up a fence and then coming back the next day to find out someone’s come along and torn it down.
“They’re targeting the green and they know exactly what they’re doing. It’s like they have a vendetta or something.”
Police have confirmed that they are looking into the latest attack and have asked anyone with knowledge of who was involved to contact them.
(Image: George Munro) Chief Inspector David Doherty said: “On Thursday, 20 February, 2025, we received a report of vandalism by youths on bikes at Whinhill golf club which took place around 4.30pm on Wednesday, 19 February.”
“Officers will speak to the reporter to gather more details and further enquiries will be carried out.
“Anti-social behaviour in any form is unacceptable and will continue to be a focus for local community officers. I would encourage anyone who has knowledge of those involved in this incident to report it to Police Scotland through 101 quoting reference number 0788 of 20 February.”
In response to the latest incident, an Inverclyde Leisure spokesperson said: “Further to our previous comments, Inverclyde Leisure and Inverclyde Council are further disappointed with the continued vandalism to Whinhill Golf Course.
“The acts of these criminals on e-Bikes is spoiling the course for the many members and guests.
“It is also extremely saddening to see the fantastic work done by the greenkeepers being tarnished in mindless vandalism.
“We are working closely with Inverclyde Council and the relevant authorities to explore what options are available to attempt to stop these actions in the future.
“Although the course will not be in perfect condition, the greenkeepers have done a great job and will be open this weekend.”
