Popular footballer gets extra-special Midlands welcome after Villa move
A POPULAR Birmingham attraction has given one of Aston Villa’s latest new signings an extra-special welcome to the West Midlands.
The Legoland Discovery Centre has unveiled a specially-made minifigure on England and former Manchester United forward, Marcus Rashford in a tribute to his arrival at Villa Park.
The minifigure can be seen on display at the Discovery Centre being given a warm welcome while wearing Aston Villa’s claret and blue, proudly displaying the number nine on its back.
The display also features a brick banner reading “Welcome to Birmingham Marcus” as well as an incredibly detailed Lego recreation of Villa Park, complete with goals, a sold-out crowd and, of course, Villa’s new number nine with a big smile on his face.
Amy Langham, General Manager of Legoland Discovery Centre Birmingham, said: “Marcus mentioned that joining Aston Villa was an ‘easy decision,’ and our team here at LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre Birmingham felt the same in making him feel at home.
“We have a few passionate Aston Villa supporters in the team, so this tribute feels extra special to us.”
Rashford has joined Villa on loan for the remainder of the season following a move from the Red Devils.
He has scored 138 goals in over 400 appearances having come through the ranks at Old Trafford and has lifted the Europa League, two FA Cups and two League Cups with his boyhood club.
After his singing was announced, Rashford said: “It’s an ambitious time for this club and a great opportunity for me to join the team and help them keep pushing forward.
“I’m excited, can’t wait for the first training session and obviously the first game.
“(Unai Emery is) a top manager and what he’s done at the club since he’s come to Villa is unbelievable.
“It’s the constant ambition that’s attractive, and it’s why you want to join such a club.
“You want to keep improving year on year, and that’s what the team has been doing and are doing this year."
Lego's ode to Rashford will be on display at the Legoland Discovery Centre, Birmingham until further notice.
