Port Glasgow manager hoping to bolster squad for Undertakers' promotion push
PORT GLASGOW Juniors boss Tam Jamieson has revealed that he is trying to add to his squad ahead of a hectic second half of the season in the West of Scotland Division Four.
The Undertakers are about to hit the halfway mark in their league campaign, and currently sit four points off the top ahead of this Saturday's clash with West Park United at Parklea.
And Jamieson is keen to try and add that extra bit of quality to ensure that Port can keep the heat on league leaders Knightswood.
He told the Tele: "We've got an eye on a couple of potential targets. But it's good to see there's a couple of boys coming back in at this point.
"For now it's about just getting them in and getting a look at them.
"We do have an eye on a centre-half in the Premier Division. Hopefully we can get him in; we're having a good go to get him.
"He's a young kid that needs to get games and he'd add to the squad for sure.
"We're also keeping an eye out to see if we can add to the squad. There's a couple of local boys out there that are unhappy just now, and might want to get out and play games, so we need to be on top of that.
"We're just chipping away at it and we are trying. But we're in a good place and if we don't get anybody in, we'll happily go with what we've got in the second half of the season."
The Port were due to get 2025 under way on Saturday with a short trip to Renfrew to face St Peter's, but the clash at New Western Park was one of many WoSFL games at the weekend that fell victim to the cold snap, with only three games across all five divisions managing to beat the weather.
Jamieson's men have already bested this Saturday's opponents twice this season, with a 2-1 victory at Huntershill on the opening day of the campaign back in July followed by a 4-3 home win in September in round one of the South Challenge Cup.
But West Park harbour promotion aspirations of their own, having climbed to fourth in the table after going on a run of seven league games unbeaten since that September cup clash Parklea; their sequence of six straight wins was ended only by a goalless draw against Eglinton just before Christmas.
The Undertakers' league form, though, is even better, with Jamieson's men having avoided defeat in their last nine Fourth Division games, a run that stretches all the way back to the middle of August.
The first half of the Port's campaign also featured some impressive cup performances against the likes of Whitletts and Cambuslang Rangers, while Jamieson's men also impressed against Premier Division high fliers Troon last month before eventually bowing out of the West of Scotland Cup.
And despite more than a month having passed since their last game, a 7-1 thumping of Newmains on December 14, the manager is hopeful that it won't take too long for his troops to hit the ground running.
"We want to try and build our own momentum again after having a few weeks off," Jamieson continued.

"We want to win on Saturday. If we do that, it starts the ball rolling again and we move on to the next.
"After Saturday, that's us halfway through the season, and then we'll have a look.
"We'll pick up hopefully the same amount of points, if not more. That's the aim."
