New recruit Alexander Milosevic could make his Portsmouth debut against Leeds United tomorrow lunchtime, kick-off noon. The experienced centre-back joined Pompey on a free transfer yesterday to bolster their threadbare options at the back.

Portsmouth may be without up to nine players for their encounter with Daniel Farke's league leaders this weekend. Milosevic's arrival boosts their defensive options, with Conor Shaughnessy, Rob Atkinson, Hayden Matthews and Ibane Bowat all currently occupying the treatment room.

Former Sweden international Milosevic, who had a short stint at Nottingham Forest in 2019, had been without a club since leaving Swedish side AIK last year. Head coach John Mousinho said: "The injuries we’ve suffered means we’re short on defensive options going into the final stage of the campaign.

"We scoured the markets to see who we could bring in and believe that we have found the best player available. Alexander has a wealth of experience competing at a high level of the game and has relatively recent playing experience.

"He’s kept himself very fit and we feel that he should soon be ready to slot into the side and help us in the Championship."

Milosevic, who enjoyed three spells at Swedish top-flight side AIK, helping them to the league title in 2018, may line up against United as long as his international clearance is granted in time for the clash. Mousinho's Pompey sit 17th in the second tier of English football with an eight-point cushion to the relegation zone going into the final 11 matches of the campaign.
