Arsenal's possible Champions League round of 16 opponents Feyenoord have sacked manager Brian Priske just two days before their play-off tie against AC Milan.

Mikel Arteta's side, who finished third in the new Champions League format, have gained automatic qualification to the last 16 but are waiting to find out who they are going to be facing. Feyenoord, Juventus, AC Milan and PSV Eindhoven are the four opponents the Gunners could take on in March.

But one of those have decided to make a change in management. Feyenoord have axed Priske less than 72 hours before the first leg of their Champions League play-off tie at home to AC Milan.

A club statement read: "Feyenoord and Brian Priske part ways with immediate effect. We thank Brian for his time at the club and wish him all the best."

Feyenoord general and technical director Dennis te Kloese said: "It is very disappointing for all parties that we had to come to this decision.

"Although Feyenoord achieved some impressive results with Brian, especially in the UEFA Champions League, the first team's performance has been far too inconsistent in recent months, and unfortunately, we see too little structural progress."

"As a professional and as a person, I still hold Brian in high esteem. However, sometimes you have to conclude that, despite everyone’s good intentions, things are just not working out, and you have reached a point where there is not enough support to continue forward together."

Priske, who was Arne Slot's replacement after he joined Liverpool last summer, won 17 of his 32 matches in charge of Feyenoord. He guided them to 19th in the Champions League new format and oversaw wins against Bayern Munich, Benfica, Girona and Sparta Prague.

Although Feyenoord secured a 3-0 success over Sparta Rotterdam on Saturday, the decision has been made to sack Priske, with Under 21s coach Pascal Bosschart set to take charge of the tie against Milan.
