Who is predicted to win the Super Bowl 2025? Chiefs vs. Eagles stats, scouting report
It's a super rematch once again to decide the NFL champion this season. The AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs face off against the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl for the second time in three years with history on the line.
Kansas City enjoyed the first 15-win regular season in franchise history behind one of the best defenses in the NFL and an offense that made very few mistakes. The Chiefs handled the Houston Texans in the divisional round 23-14 behind that strong defense. In the AFC championship game, the Chiefs knocked off the Buffalo Bills 32-29 in a tight battle between conference powers.
The 59 greatest in Super Bowl history: Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce make cut, but so do 2 Eagles
Not the same old Chiefs: Kansas City learned to love living on edge in Super Bowl run
With that win, Kansas City is in the Super Bowl for the fifth time under coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. They're aiming to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls following their 38-35 win two years ago over the Eagles and 25-22 win over the 49ers last year.
The Eagles are the last team standing in their way of history. Philadelphia won 12 of their final 13 games behind an improving defense and prolific rushing offense. The Eagles beat the Green Bay Packers 22-10 in the wild-card round before knocking out the Los Angeles Rams 28-22 in the divisional round. In the NFC championship game, Philadelphia scored a season-high 55 points in a win over the Washington Commanders.
The team is looking for its first title since the 2017 NFL season. Running back Saquon Barkley, who was not on the Eagles when these teams met in Super Bowl 57, could set a NFL record for rushing yards in regular and postseason combined. He needs 30 yards to break Hall of Famer Terrell Davis' record set in the Denver Broncos' championship-winning 1998 campaign.
OPINION: Robert Kraft's Super Bowl 59 ad with Tom Brady, Snoop Dogg is a call to action
There's lots of talent on both sides of the ball and Super Bowl 59 could be a close battle. Here's the latest predictions for the game and what to know about each team:
2025 Super Bowl: Chiefs vs. Eagles predictions
Arizona Republic: Chiefs 30, Eagles 27
Jeremy Cluff writes: "This is a rematch of the Super Bowl in 2023 and we like the Chiefs to get the better of the Eagles this season like they did that season when they earned a 38-35 win. Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Andy Reid just know how to win in the postseason and their legends will only grow with a third straight Super Bowl title in a narrow win over Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and the Eagles."
Bleacher Report: Chiefs 27, Eagles 24
Erik Beaston says: "While the offensive players will likely receive the adulation of fans via MVP votes, it is the defense that will likely be the difference between victory and defeat in Super Bowl LIX. ... The Chiefs defense has kept the team in games this year and is as essential to the team's success as the offense. They will prove it one more time in New Orleans as the Chiefs outlast the Eagles in another three-point slugfest and make history as the first team to win three Super Bowls in a row."
Larry Holder, The Athletic: Eagles 27, Chiefs 24
Holder writes: "Am I really setting myself up for failure again by picking the Eagles to thwart the Chiefs’ three-peat? In this same space two years ago, I went with the Eagles, and I’m not letting my past bumps and bruises sway me away from my conviction. The Eagles defense seems capable of slowing down Mahomes and company and Barkley will top his prolific season with at least one more home run scamper to give the Eagles one more Lombardi Trophy."
Tashan Reed, The Athletic: Chiefs 24, Eagles 21
Reed says: "As much attention as Mahomes and Barkley will garner, it’s important to remember that this is a matchup featuring two premier defenses. For that reason, I don’t see this being a high-scoring affair. In the end, Mahomes and the Chiefs find a way to pull out yet another one-score win."
2025 Super Bowl: Chiefs stats, scouting report
Kansas City finished the regular season with one of the best defenses in the NFL. That unit, coordinated by Steve Spagnuolo, finished fourth in points allowed and ninth in yards. They were especially stingy against the run, ranking eighth in fewest yards allowed on the ground.
The best player on the unit is defensive lineman Chris Jones. He can line up in multiple spots and is one of the best pass rushers at his position in the NFL. Trent McDuffie was Pro Football Focus' (PFF) second-best cornerback in the league this season and leads one of the best secondaries in the league. Spagnuolo's creativity and aggression as a playcaller makes the Chiefs defense a tough opponent in high-leverage games.
The offense finished with its worst ranking by yards in the Mahomes era and failed to score more than 30 points in any game during the regular season. But that unit made up for it on key downs, finishing the regular season second in third-down conversion rate (48.5%) and third in fourth-down conversion rate (70.6%).
Mahomes is no stranger to this game and has the experience, outstanding talent and mentality to solve any problems thrown at him by opposing defensive coordinators. Rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy's provided a much-needed spark in the playoffs as a speedy threat against man coverage. Tight end Travis Kelce remains Mahomes' top option, especially in key moments, and knows how best to attack defenses.
2025 Super Bowl: Eagles stats, scouting report
Philadelphia started the season slow and entered a Week 5 bye at 2-2. After that, the Eagles went on a 12-1 run to secure the NFC East title behind one of the best defenses in the league and a top-tier offense.
Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is in his first season with Philadelphia and the Eagles have reaped the benefits. Philadelphia went from 30th in points allowed last year to second this season with the No. 1 ranked pass defense in the NFL.
Like Kansas City, Philadelphia's best player on defense plays on the line: Jalen Carter. The second-year player from Georgia is a force on the interior. His presence alongside standouts like Josh Sweat and Milton Williams frees up Zack Baun, PFF's top-rated linebacker this season, to make plays in the run and against the pass. Top rookies Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean have helped an improved secondary as well.
Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is in his first season with the Eagles as well and that unit has much improved since last season. Philadelphia finished the regular season second in rushing offense and have turned the ball over just four times in their last 11 games.
That potent rushing attack is a perfect pairing of one of the best offensive lines in the NFL and a standout season by Barkley. Quarterback Jalen Hurts is also a threat in the run game and has a pair of top wideouts in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith to target through the air.
