Premier League announces big change for Liverpool clash as Arsenal get title race update
Eyes will be on Villa Park on Wednesday night as Arsenal keep watch over title rivals Liverpool as they take on Aston Villa.
The Gunners are currently seven points behind Liverpool in the table, but Arne Slot’s men will have the chance to increase that lead further in Wednesday night’s Premier League clash (7.30pm kick-off). The game is being played now due to Liverpool’s participation in the Carabao Cup final next month leading to the game being rearranged.
Ahead of the match at Villa Park, the Premier League have announced that the game will be the first to use the new and final Nike matchball of the season. The new Nike Flight Ball is a re-imagined design of the brand’s Total 90s football as it celebrates it’s 25th year of being the official ball supplier of the Premier League.

The ball will be used between now and the end of the season. Arsenal’s first chance to use the ball themselves in a game will come on Saturday afternoon (3pm) when they take on West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium.
In an official statement on their website the Premier League described the modern-day technology behind the re-imagined ball. “Built with Aerowsculpt technology with grooves debased into the casing, this allows the air to travel seamlessly around the ball delivering truer flight,” they said. “It is crafted with shorter seem length to allow for a sweeter touch.”
They added: “The Nike Flight Premier League ball will make its debut appearance this season on Wednesday 19 February, when Aston Villa host Liverpool.”
A win for Liverpool over Villa would see them extend their lead at the top of the table to 10 points. However, Arsenal will be given the chance to take advantage over any dropped points when they take on Chelsea at home on 16 March, with Liverpool not in Premier League action that weekend due to the Carabao Cup final.
