The Premier League have confirmed the referee for this weekend's clash between Manchester City and Liverpool.

City will host the Merseyside club at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon when they return to top-flight action. Before then is the second leg of the Champions League play-off against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

Pep Guardiola's side claimed a convincing 4-0 victory over Newcastle United in their last Premier League match. Now the officials have been confirmed for the next round of top-flight fixtures.

Anthony Taylor will be refereeing the fixture at the Etihad on Sunday between City and Liverpool. He will be assisted by Gary Beswick and Lee Betts, with Stuart Attwell on VAR duty.

Taylor has taken charge of three City fixtures this season, with only one of them ending in a win for Guardiola's team. That victory saw City claim all three points against Chelsea on the opening day of the season at Stamford Bridge.

Since then, Taylor took charge of City's 2-1 defeat to Manchester United back in December. That was followed by the 2-2 draw with Brentford in January, meaning City have won just four points from a possible 12 when Taylor has refereed their matches this season.

It was during the defeat in the Manchester derby that Taylor awarded a penalty to United, which was converted by Bruno Fernandes. Taylor gave the spot-kick in the 86th minute, when City were leading 1-0 at the time, when Matheus Nunes was judged to have fouled Amad Diallo.

City went on to lose the game in stoppage time, with Amad scoring the winning goal for United in the final moments of the contest. City will be hoping to secure all three points when they face Liverpool and close the gap on the league leaders, which currently stands at 16 points.
