The Premier League have confirmed that Liverpool’s trip to Manchester City in February will kick off at 4:30pm (UK time).

The date for the fixture was announced last week, along with the rest of Liverpool’s February games. However, the Premier League said a kick-off time would be revealed at a later date. It was subsequently confirmed on Wednesday that the game at the Etihad will begin at 16:30 GMT (11:30 ET) on February 23, immediately after Newcastle United v Nottingham Forest.

Typically, Liverpool’s trips to City have been decisive games in the Premier League title race. Trent Alexander-Arnold ’s late equaliser canceled out Erling Haaland’s opener and rescued a point in Jurgen Klopp ’s last visit to the ground in November 2023, while a pulsating 2-2 draw two seasons prior kept the battle for top spot tight heading into the final weeks of the 2021/22 campaign.

But it has been a ground that the Reds have typically struggled at. Liverpool last won in east Manchester in a Champions League clash in 2018, while the last league victory came in 2015 when Philippe Coutinho and Martin Skrtel were among the scorers. However, Arne Slot will hope his first trip as Liverpool boss can yield an important three points.

With City struggling at present and losing eight of the last 11, there is little chance of the Reds’ old rivals being involved in the title race this season. The reigning champions currently trail leaders Liverpool by nine points and have played an extra game given the postponement of the Merseyside derby two weeks ago.

The clash at the Etihad is Liverpool’s third Premier League game of a busy February, with a trip to Bournemouth at the beginning of the month followed by a home meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers. Liverpool then host Newcastle three days after the City game, although February’s fixture schedule is not complete yet and the Reds could face matches in the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Liverpool’s progress in the latter will be decided on Wednesday night. A win over Southampton in the quarter-final stage will set up a two-legged semi-final across January and February.
