Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has given opportunities this season to youngsters whose fathers have already enjoyed impressive careers. Bobby Clark has emerged as a real talent, following in the footsteps of dad Lee, who played in the Premier League for Newcastle and Fulham.

Lewis Koumas' father Jason is an ex-Wales international while Jayden Danns is looking to emulate the career of dad Neil, who had spells with the likes of Crystal Palace, Leicester and Blackburn.

Now, the Reds have the son of another Premier League cult hero on their books after 17-year-old striker Keyrol Figueroa signed his first professional contract at the club.

Figueroa joined Liverpool's youth academy from FC Dallas in 2018 and has caught the eye with the Under-18s this season, having reportedly found the net 90 times in one campaign, while with the Under-13s and Under-14s He represents USA at international level and featured at the Under-17s World Cup last year, although he is eligible to play for England.

His dad Maynor is known to Premier League fans after spending seven years in England. The former Honduras defender initially joined Wigan on loan in January 2008 and completed a permanent switch a year later.

Figueroa famously scored from inside his own half in a draw against Stoke and was part of the Wigan squad that won the FA Cup under Roberto Martinez in 2013. He joined Hull City that summer on a free transfer and spent two seasons with the Tigers. Figueroa, who won over 180 caps for Honduras, ended his career in the United States

The Daily Star reported in 2022 that Figueroa Jnr. has already caught the attention of France ace Antoine Griezmann. The Atlético Madrid playmaker is keen on becoming an agent when he retires, and is said to be impressed with the teenager's progress.

It was claimed that Griezmann has become a 'mentor' for Figueroa and regularly sends him WhatApp messages, offering support and encouragement so early in his career.

Liverpool.com says: If Keyrol Figueroa can have the career his dad managed, his future is very bright. Liverpool has given opportunities to a host of youngsters this season and more will hope to get chances next term. Figueroa may still be some way off that sort of exposure but he is already making quite the impression. Liverpool has made a clever move in tying down the youngster as other clubs would have been circling.
