The Premier League was forced to release three statements during Nottingham Forest's chaotic 7-0 thumping of Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side bounced back in great fashion after the 5-0 defeat to Bournemouth last weekend. Lewis Dunk gifted Forest their first goal after his clearance in the box ended in the back of the net in the 12th minute.

Morgan Gibbs-White doubled the lead shortly after as Chris Wood would go on to net a hat-trick. Neco Williams and Jota Silva added to the scoreline in the second half. Not only was it their perfect response to last week's defeat, the Reds were also boosted by the return of Danilo since recovering from a broken ankle.

But it wasn't all plain sailing for the Match Centre who had to release three statements during the game. Wood's first goal in the 32nd minute was subject of a check by VAR for a potential offside position.

Taking to X, the statement read: "The referee’s call of goal was checked and confirmed by VAR – with Wood in an onside position."

In the 69th minute, there were calls for a penalty after Tariq Lamptey appeared to have fouled Morgan Gibbs-White in the box. A penalty was awarded after a VAR check with Wood converting from the spot.

"The referee’s call of penalty for the foul by Lamptey on Gibbs-White was checked and confirmed by VAR – with the challenge deemed to be sustained holding with no attempt to play the ball," the second statement explained.

There were then calls for a handball from Ibrahim Sangare after Williams netted the sixth goal in the 89th minute. However, VAR deemed it as an 'accidental handball,' writing on X: "The referee’s call of goal was checked and confirmed by VAR – with Sangaré’s action deemed an accidental handball.
