The Premier League has confirmed the reason Bournemouth's goal against Liverpool was disallowed in their clash at the Vitality Stadium.

In the 37th minute of the match, Bournemouth thought they had equalized through David Brooks after going behind to a Mohamed Salah penalty. However, the goal ended up being chalked off.

And the reason why the goal was disallowed has now been explained by the Premier League's official match centre account on social media after it Milos Kerkez was ruled offside in the build-up to the goal.

Taking to X, they wrote: "#BOULIV – 37’ The referee’s call of no goal was checked and confirmed by VAR – with Kerkez in an offside position in the build-up."

The decision to rule out Bournemouth's equalizer was the second the Premier League had to explain on social media from the contest at the Vitality.

Earlier in the game, Liverpool were awarded a penalty after Cody Gakpo went down inside the Bournemouth area after being tripped by Lewis Cook.

Initially, it looked to be a soft decision, and upon replay, also looked as though the Dutchman had tripped over his own legs. However, another angle showed Cook did make contact with Gakpo.

Tellingly, Cook did not protest the decision, hinting he knew he had fouled Gakpo. The Premier League's match centre account wrote on X: "The referee’s call of penalty was checked and confirmed by VAR – with the challenge deemed to have been a trip by Cook on Gakpo. The VAR also confirmed Gakpo was onside in the build-up."

And it was Salah who stepped up to dispatch the resulting penalty from the spot to make it 1-0 to the Reds, with the Egyptian scoring his 20th goal of the Premier League season.
