Premier League make Liverpool referee announcement after controversial Man United decision
Andy Madley has been chosen to referee Liverpool's trip to Brentford on Saturday - just six days after taking charge of the controversial FA Cup tie between Arsenal and Manchester United. Madley, who was also the man in the middle for Crystal Palace's 2-0 win over Leicester on Wednesday, saw himself involved in frantic scenes at the Emirates as United edged Arsenal to progress through to the fourth round of the world's oldest cup competition.
Following a 1-1 draw after extra-time, Ruben Amorim's side won 5-4 on penalties to book a meeting with Ruud van Nistelrooy's Leicester next month. But the game was not half filled with contentious moments. Tempers flared in the second half when Madley awarded a penalty to Arsenal for a foul on Kai Havertz by defender Harry Maguire.
Replays showed that Havertz went down following minimal contact from Maguire, who was incensed that Madley made the wrong decision. Moments later, both sets of players were involved in a mass brawl with Maguire and Gabriel Magalhaes involved, while Manuel Ugarte then appeared to use his head towards an opposition player.

With VAR not in use, Madley didn't spot Ugarte's actions and only decided to book Maguire and Gabriel for the incident. It's a moment that has been debated in recent days, but Madley has kept his refereeing duties, and he is set to officiate his third game in six days on Saturday.
The 41-year-old has been allocated Brentford vs Liverpool, with Nick Hopton and Craig Taylor set to join him as his two assistants. Farai Hallam has been picked as the fourth official, with Paul Tierney on VAR and Dan Robathan as his assistant.
Liverpool will be looking to return to winning ways in the Premier League after drawing their last two matches against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest. Arne Slot's men were held to a 1-1 draw against an in-form Forest side at The City Ground in their most recent encounter on Tuesday. Diogo Jota earned the Reds a point in the second half after Chris Wood put Forest in front in the first half.
