I presented Nikola Katic transfer to Rangers in THIS window – here is what they told me
Nikola Katic WAS presented to Rangers earlier this month - but the Ibrox club delivered a swift 'not for us' reply.
That's according to former Light Blues defender Craig Moore who has opened up on the situation surrounding the former fans' favourite. His name has been in the headlines this month as a potential arrival to help out Philippe Clement's defensive crisis. John Souttar remains sidelined while Leon Balogun was forced off again in the Europa League defeat to Manchester United and missed the weekend win at Dundee United with Robin Propper and Clintion Nsiala paired together once again at the heart of the backline.
Katic was signed by former boss Steven Gerrard and Record Sport reported earlier in the month that he was keen on a return to Ibrox - but we understand no approach has yet been forthcoming from the club despite the shortage of options in his position.
Moore spoke up the credentials of the stopper live on air, and when pushed by Celtic hero John Hartson about the terms of a deal, he said talks over the FC Zurich man 'didn't get to the table'. Speaking on Go Radio, Moore explained: "I try to be as honest and transparent as I possibly can. Katic is a player I presented to Rangers at the start of the window. Katic was a fans' favourite, who done well at the club until he picked up his ACL injury.
"He then went to chase football elsewhere, I think originally in Croatia, and has continued to grow at Zurich like you say. Big, solid defender but there was no interest so I imagine at this stage there is still no interest otherwise I'd have had a call, which I haven't.
"28, 6 foot 4 and loves to attack the ball. It is important in terms of both boxes with set pieces for and against and how important they are. It doesn't look as if the situation was going to go any further because I got a very swift 'not for us'.
Hartson then asked fellow pundit Moore what type of deal that they were looking at when pushed, he confirmed: "At the time when he was pushed, it was a loan with an option we were looking to explore. But we didn't get to the table."
