PREVIEW: City eyeing the chance to build on Oldham win with trip to Boston
YORK City supporter Morgan Bruce previews the Minstermen's upcoming match with Boston United.
This weekend, York City face another away trip as they travel to Lincolnshire to get revenge for an early season loss against Boston United.
York will be facing relegation-threatened Boston, who have struggled to adjust to the National League this season.
Having won promotion back to the fifth tier last year they have found the jump from the National League North to the National League really tough, and therefore find themselves in the bottom four and at risk of going straight back down
They’ve only managed to win three games this campaign, with one of them being against York early in the season and it is only one of two away wins.
It came at a time when they arguably peaked this year as they beat York away on August 26, then in their next away game, they beat the playoff-chasing Sutton United 3-0 at Gander Green Lane in South London.
However, despite the poor performances all season, Boston will be going into this game knowing that York are beatable and they will know the type of performance and the tactics that will be needed if they are to replicate the result this weekend.
City on the other hand have had an interesting week in the lead up to this game having picked up a combined three points from the Sutton home game on Saturday, and the Oldham away game on Tuesday.
However, it could be argued that York got those three points in a manner that was least expected by losing at home to Sutton and beating Oldham away.
The Sutton loss was unexpected for a plethora of reasons, mainly the Minstermen’s home form this year which going into that game was nearly perfect as they had only failed to win twice in 13 home games, which included wins against teams in the current top seven such as Barnet, and Gateshead.
However, it was an uncharacteristically poor home performance where the team was unbalanced and too easy and predictable to defend against, which made life far too easy for the visitors from South London who were able to sting City with a brace from former York striker Will Davies.
The Oldham win on the other hand was the complete antithesis of the Sutton loss.
There was energy, structure, balance, and composure from York.
Even though the game started in a cagey manner, once York grasped the game, they firmly held on and didn’t let go.
They took their chances well and were able to cruise to a 2-0 win in front of 1,200 travelling York fans which got them their first away win since the chaotic end to the Halifax win in October.
York will be looking to carry the Oldham performance straight into this weekend’s game whereas Boston will be looking to replicate a performance from four and a half months ago, with the recent return of striker Jimmy Knowles who will be looking to keep them up following his return on loan.
