YORK City supporter Morgan Bruce previews the Minstermen's upcoming match with Sutton United.

Following the recent cold snap across England, York return to league action this weekend as they host newly-relegated Sutton United.

Sutton were much like York last weekend who were also preparing for a long away trip to face a team threatened by relegation in Maidenhead United and AFC Fylde respectively before both games, along with so many others across England, were postponed due to the poor weather conditions.

This means that York have not played a league game since the New Year’s Day fixture against Gateshead, which they narrowly won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Marvin Armstrong who poked home from a corner in front of the home crowd.

Scoring from corners isn’t something that York are expected to do much of due to a relative lack of height in the team however, they have been one of the best teams in the National League for scoring from corners this season and this will be something that they will continue to as the season goes on.

Since that win, the Minstermen have experienced a bit of a rollercoaster two weeks.

This started with the statement signing of very highly rated striker Josh Stones from League One side Wigan Athletic, after a successful loan spell at York’s title rivals Oldham Athletic, which added more intrigue to what has already been a crazy title race consisting of several teams all who have a great chance of winning the title.

However, what followed the excitement of the announcement of this signing was the incredibly disappointing loss in the FA Trophy to seventh-tier side Lincolnshire-based Gainsborough Trinity.

This loss was disappointing for a few reasons namely the gap in league positions between the two teams however, something that was discussed more was that this was so disappointing because, in the lead-up to the game, there was a lot of buzz around the club as people started to compare the possibilities of Adam Hinshelwood’s side matching what the team from the 2011/12 season led by Gary Mills, who were able to do by winning the FA Trophy and promotion back to the EFL in the same season.

Due to the aforementioned postponement last weekend, the FA Trophy loss will be feeling that extra bit worse as it will still be in the minds of the playing and coaching staff.

Therefore this weekend will be big to get over that loss and get back to winning ways. One thing York can take encouragement from is how they’ve bounced back as after every loss so far this season, a win has followed immediately.

As for Sutton, they weren’t granted the luxury of a full week’s rest coming into this game as they had a came in hand to catch up on.

On Wednesday they hosted relegation-threatened Wealdstone but were only able to get a point from a game that a lot of people expected them to win which they will be feeling despondent about which may impact this weekend’s game.
