Protest group calls for public meeting with club hierarchy in open letter
Swindon Town protest group The Spirit of '69 have called for a public meeting with supporters and Clem Morfuni as part of an open letter.
The protest group formed following Swindon's 3-2 home defeat against Morecambe in November 2024 have held two public demonstrations so far to help pursue their goal of Morfuni publicly putting the club up for sale.
The Spirit of '69 believe that the current club hierarchy is "incompetent" and holding back progress on and off the field.
Ahead of the last protest after Town's game against Port Vale, co-founder Terry Pierce met with Morfuni and CEO Anthony Hall.
Pierce said of this meeting: “What this does allow us is a direct route forward to drive towards some sort of public meeting, our commitment to the people who have aligned with us from the beginning is that we will not get sucked into trying to resolve this through private meetings.
“We are very much of the opinion that whatever conversation that happens next has to be in a public forum in one way or another."
The group have now penned an open letter to Morfuni and Hall in which they have called for them to host an independently-chaired public meeting which any Town fan can attend, in which the club hierarchy would answer questions which had been pre-submitted to give them time to prepare.
The letter read: "At the conclusion of our meeting, it was agreed that Anthony would reach out with some potential dates for a more substantial discussion, the scope and format of which was not discussed.
"In the days since, we have seen further broken commitments, with the rollback on your promise to file accounts quarterly and your dismantling of the MoU with TrustSTFC. We are also entering a critical period with regard to the development of the NECG, with which you have proven you cannot be trusted to leave.
"And as we sit here two weeks later, we've yet to hear from you, but rather than stew on yet another broken promise, we thought we would instead take the initiative and make a proposal for our next meeting.
"We have said since our founding in November that any time spent with the three of us should be spent with the wider community. We are not special, nor are we representative.
"So given you have already said you're willing to spend the time with us, let's instead put that time to good use in a way that actually serves all Swindon Town fans."
