Proud Peter Schmeichel plants smacker on Celtic hero keeper Kasper as pundit bursts into applause
Proud dad Peter Schmiechel planted a smacker on son Kasper after his heroic display for Celtic in Munich - as Micah Richards broke into spontaneous applause for his ex Manchester City team-mate.
The Hoops shot-stopper was in inspired form between the sticks for Brendan Rodgers’ men before last-gasp heartache when Alphonso Davies finally found the net for the German giants to cancel out Nicolas Kuhn’s opener and send Vincent Kompany’s men into Friday’s Champions League last-16 draw.
Manchester United and Denmark legend Schmeichel has been working as a pundit for most of Celtic’s games and his interviews with Kasper after games have become a feature of coverage on CBS Sports Golazo. And he kicked off this interview with the Celtic man by saying: “I made my way over and shook everyone’s hand and said ‘You did fantastically well, you have everything to be proud of’. They were so close to getting to extra time and it was taken away by literally the last kick of the game.”

Ex England defender Richards, who was in the studio with Jamie Carragher, Thierry Henry and host Kate Abdo, burst into applause and said: “Kasper, magnificent tonight mate, magnificent tonight.”
Abdo said: “Go on Peter, give him a hug.” And Peter said: “He gets a kiss.
"Honestly, I don’t even know where to begin. It’s so cruel. The emotions. You think you’re nearly there and all of a sudden it’s taken away from you. Say something please.”
Kasper said: “There’s not much to say. It’s a cruel game sometimes. We did everything we possibly could and Lady Luck was against us in the last kick of the game. Coming away to Bayern and we go out but we’re disappointed with a draw which says a lot about where this team is going. I’m very proud of the boys, I thought we defended very well and accomplished everything we tried in the game.
“It should give us confidence. The fact we’re sitting in the Bayern away dressing room disappointed says a lot about the journey we’ve been on, when you think of the start to the campaign with a big win and big loss away. Then to go to Atalanta away and keep them from scoring - a free scoring team. It’s about having that Champions League nous, a little bit of a different style to what we play in our home league. It’s having that cleverness and a little bit more ruthless streak has brought us far but right now it feels rubbish. When we analyse and reflect it will stand his in goo stead. It’s good experience for young players who haven’t played at this level before. We’re in a good place for the future.”
Carragher said: “We’re devastated for you. It’s been a nice journey watching the two of you. Hopefully in the future I’m in a similar situation with my own son but Peter, you should be so proud of Kasper. He’s been fantastic. It’s been a lovely little journey watching you. Really nice.”
Abdo concluded: “We’re disappointed for you. We were rooting for you and appreciate you coming on.”
