Proud of players, Tommy Backwell injury blow and positive impact from Tim Dieng - Cheltenham Town boss Michael Flynn after Peterborough United defeat

What are your thoughts on what you've just seen?

I am a bit disappointed with the goals we conceded. But I am proud of the players. We came here and gave it a right go, exciting match. I am just proud of the players.

You started well and could have been ahead before they scored

Yes, we dominated the first half. Poor goal to go one down. Responded brilliantly and the players deserve all the credit. They were excellent tonight. A few things to improve on, like the goals, and we were a bit wasteful with the ball at times, but their effort and togetherness was unreal.

What disappointed you about the goals?

They were poor, let's be honest. I am not going to dig anyone out. I am proud of the players, it's been a good cup run, we have lost to Peterborough and I wish them luck in the next round.

Two really good goals scored, Jordan Thomas with a lovely finish

Yes, great finish and that's what I've said, if he hits the target more often, he will score a lot more like that because he has fantastic ability. I am pleased for him. He hit the bar before that and it was a good finish.

George Miller too for the second

It was an excellent finish. Those are the goals he thrives on, going through, playing on the shoulder of defenders and it was a great finish, lift of the ball. If he'd kept it low, the keeper would have saved it. It was a fantastic finish from George.

We've seen him poaching goals, but we haven't really seen him do that yet

No and he has come out there and finished it superbly. I went with fresh legs, they went 4-4-2 and we matched them up and he gave a lot of effort in the first half as they all did. I thought I'd try and freshen it up with the two strikers.

How is Tommy Backwell after going off?

That's a disappointing thing tonight. It doesn't look great, if I am honest. It's a hamstring. We won't know until maybe after the weekend how severe that is. It was tough for him. It's hard when you are not used to playing with the intensity of how we want to play, with the pressing game and I am gutted for him.

How pleased were you to make his deal permanent after his loan?

Yes, good work from Gary and the board, getting that over the line. We were able to pick all of our loans in the same squad. Unfortunately it's killed us a bit with the injury now.

You brought Tim Dieng on. What is he going to bring?

Experience, calmness. A couple of good runs he's made into the 'T' area, as we call it, some lovely through balls. He'll get up to speed and I thought he did well when he came on.

How do you assess the transfer window as a whole?

Obviously really disappointed losing Joel Colwill. But Val (Adedokun) was excellent first half. I took him off because of the booking. They were going for it and we didn't want to leave him 1 v 1. He was probably lucky to stay on, if I am honest. It was a big shirt pull and I will be straight with you, but there were some crazy decisions out there tonight.

Is that it for business now, or will you look at free agents?

Not at the moment, no. Not unless something happens with one or two players going out. I am not looking to get any of them out, just so you know. I will shut that down. But if something did happen, we'd probably look at that.

What about loans out?

Not at the minute, apart from maybe Brandon (Liggett). We'll look at that.

Tom King?

Not sure. That's more what Gary and Tim (Bell) think need to happen with him.

How pleased are you that bids were rejected for players in January?

The board deserve a lot of credit for that. Cheltenham are known as a selling club, let's be straight, and they've turned down some really good bids.

17 games left to play in League Two. Do you think you can push on now?

If I didn't I might as well just go and sit in the dressing room and let the mascot do the interview! I do, yes, of course.

How good has this competition been for you and the club this season?

It's been really useful and the boys have been excellent all the way through, as they have for the majority of the season. We've had a couple of blips, but the effort they are putting in and we play some good stuff. We are exciting to watch. I am just gutted we couldn't have that big one against Birmingham City. Is it still regional in the next round? Whatever it is, I am sure the Vertu sponsors will want a Wrexham and Birmingham final! I am sure Peterborough and Bradford will have something to say about that.

Is Jordan Thomas starting to find more consistency now, as he plays more games?

He is yes, he's getting used to playing week-in, week-out. He had a hand in George's goal too, with an important flick to get him through. He was excellent tonight.

How pleased are you to add the experience of Tim Dieng?

Really pleased, especially now with Tommy going down. He can play in that role, sitter, 10. We have to get him up to speed and have a look at what we do on Saturday.

How is Scot Bennett?

He won't be too long.
