'Proved me wrong again' - Arne Slot makes honest Liverpool players admission after Brentford win
Arne Slot admits his Liverpool players proved him wrong once again with their dramatic late victory at Brentford. Darwin Nunez came off the bench to score twice in injury time to earn the Reds a 2-0 Premier League triumph at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The result moved Liverpool six points clear of second-placed Arsenal with a game in hand with the Gunners held to a 2-2 draw at home to Aston Villa later in the evening.
The Reds dominated the game and had 37 shots at goal, the most for an away team in the Premier League since such records began in 2003.

And when asked about whether he had any doubt Liverpool would break Brentford’s resolve as the game ticked into injury time, Slot said: “Yes of course I had doubts about that. Before we scored the two goals, it felt like I was looking at the same game again and again and again and the same pattern.
“I said already a few times that against Manchester United the other week, everyone was focused on the (Harry) Maguire chance but the seven minutes before we had three open chances.
“So many times in recent weeks, against Tottenham we missed a lot of chances, against Forest we missed a lot. It would have been a bit surprising that after all the chances we missed today we would probably score in the last five minutes. But the players proved me wrong – again.”
Slot was making reference to Tuesday, when he had told his players at half-time at Nottingham Forest that they would probably only have a few chances, but went on to dominate the second half in earning a 1-1 draw.
Nunez had netted only four times this season before Saturday and has been benched for five of the last seven Premier League games.
And when asked about the Uruguayan’s impact, Slot said: “He is having a good season, he scores goals and works very hard for the team and he assists, but he is in competition with a lot of good players and that’s why he isn’t on the pitch every game.
“But I’m very happy with him, not just because he scored twice today but with the other performances he scored as well.
“The first goal was a long build-up, the second was a counter-attack. He can score goals against a low block as he is a threat from crosses in the box, he had quite a good chance when Robbo crossed for him.
“But if we wouldn’t have scored in last five minutes then the headlines would have been, ‘Liverpool drop points again’ and nobody would have spoken about 37 shots at goal – how many have done that against Brentford?”
